I have a 4gb iphone and just bought my wife an 8gb maybe 2 weeks ago. Her unit was a refurb, as was mine. It seems her battery life is HORRIBLE compared to mine. Just today we compared usage:

Mine: 3hr 25min of usage, 4hr 23min standby: I have about 50-60% battery
Her: 4hr 3min of usage, 5hr 36min standby: she was on 10% low battery warning

So basically hers was used 40min more, with an hour more standby, but was about to die. I totally think that she needs a replacement.

Is Apple pretty quick to send replacement units for this? Or do they chalk it up to user paranoia and make you live with it?

Apple's pretty cool about providing replacements for faulty products. Take it to an Apple store and show them your comparison or even just tell them your story and they'll more than likely shoot her another refurb or if you get lucky, a new one.
