Hello,
I'm living in Dubai and I have bought a uMBP from a computer shop and I'm thinking of getting AppleCare, so where should i buy it from and how will apple know when i bought it (should i show them the receipt from computer shop i bought from?)

note: the computer shop is not official apple reseller.

thank you

Anywhere. If price isn't an issue you can call up AppleCare and purchase it over the phone. You can try eBay. Some have had success some have not so you might want to be cautious.

Apple knows the date of purchase from the serial number.
Just go here, type in your Macs serial number, and you'll get the date your warranty expires (which is 1 year after purchase).

I'm getting this error:

We're sorry, our system is not available at this time.

can you check and see if you get the same error

thanks

Yeah, you have to be careful with eBay and AppleCare. I too would only advise you get a sealed AppleCare box from a reputable seller.

guys i can open the warranty status site now, but now when i enter my serial and country i get this error:

We're sorry, the transaction cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later or contact us.

can anyone please check if they are getting the same error.

thanks

yes i tried it, it showed that my warranty finishes on Nov, 2009. But i bought it from the store in Feb 2009...
Did you buy it new? If you have proof of purchase(receipt) you can contact Apple to see if they can update it for you. I'm not 100% sure it will work because you didn't buy it from an authorized shop, but you can still try. Just click on where it says "If you believe that this information is inaccurate, learn how to update your coverage status" after you enter your serial number. Then follow the steps to submit all the information Apple requests.

If you bought it from i legit. shop (that sells new products, rather returned or used) then, i think you can contact apple with your receipt and your mac info, and they should be able to adjust it.

I did buy it new, what i think the thing is that the store bought it from an apple store outside the UAE, then resell it here. I will try to contact apple/store and see what happens.
