I am saying that the button click is noticeable in a completely silent environment. If you are not alone, the click sound could be heard by others in same quiet space. Of course you may or may not care.

No one else referred too it as "too loud". You are the only one.

Use Assistive Touch then.

Its all in how you click it. On my 6, i can press softly and slowly and it's silent or i can do it quickly and it clicks loudly. It can be controlled and it depends on how you click it.

This is exactly true. If you "cushion" your presses, no sounds whatsoever. If you click really hard and fast, it makes a sound, but it is by no means loud or annoying. I mean, it's not even as loud as a mouse click or a keyboard stroke.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
force touch swiping can be a chore. and mine doesn't go back to Home - it goes to the previous app. when I do the same on that app, it goes back to the app I was just on. dang, my thumb is sore.

with how loud, yet solid of a click my Home button gives, it's hard to imagine there are others with no audible sound at all.

This is something I don't like about the 6+, it has a loud Clacky sounding home button, yes I figured out if you press on the edge it is much quieter but you shouldn't have to compromise like that, it should be subtle with a full finger press. To me it really makes the device lose sophistication, you have an amazingly advanced piece of technology but the main home button feels and sounds like a fisher price toy.

The last iPhone I had which had a silent and subtle home button was the iPhone 4. Some people whined about how it felt too spongey and there may have been some issues with the need to replace it because some people are too harsh with their presses and damaged it. It was probably this that made apple redesign the home button as the 5 also has an annoyingly too loud clack sound.
The new iPad mini 4 has a much more subtle and pleasant home button, maybe the iPhone 7 will have a more subtle and sophisticated one also.

A way to avoid the loud clacking home button all together is to use assistive touch, which brings up an onscreen menu of many on screen buttons you can arrange, you can even turn the device off with a screen button, and if you have smaller hands this makes the 6+ really usuable without having to slide up from buttom or top to get control centre

Same here. New 6S+ is pretty loud compared to my 6+. It seems stiff, and feels just...odd. I've read around and seems this isn't widespread. I plan to call Apple Monday, and get it replaced. It actually annoys me enough. Other than that the phone is great.

Doesn't bother me too much. The last replacement 6 I got a few weeks ago had the loudest home button I had ever seen, but I've gotten used to it, and my new 6S+ is very similar.

They must have a batch of very loud, clicky buttons right now.

My uncle has an Apple Watch whose home button, the digital crown push, it sounds like he is opening a can soda. Crazy loud.

You think they could make buttons a bit more consistently? I know car manufacturers will engineer or select buttons to make a specific level of sound for the car experience, maybe Apple should take note.

I agree with the idea that the feel of the home button should be consistent across devices. I upgraded from a 6 Plus to a 6s Plus. After getting accustomed to a rather firm and muted home button on the 6 Plus, it is difficult for me to get used to a relatively yielding and noisy home button on the 6s Plus. Many people exchange their iPhones searching for one with the home button that has the feel that pleases them. Apple might save money on those kind of exchanges if it paid attention to engineering a consistent feel on the home buttons.

Thanks. I tried it but found it very ineffective. It is slow, difficult to force touch with the right pressure. Most of the time it didn't register correctly, and did I mention it's slow, particularly when you have many apps opened.
It takes some practice, and helps to set 3D Touch to require less pressure in Settings > Accessibility > 3D Touch. I force touch the edge to avoid double-clicking the home button frequently, and it works well enough.

My 6S makes a click sound that is quite noticeable when the surrounding environment is silent. This can be an issue using your iPhone at night when you are sharing bed/room with someone trying to sleep.

In case you didn't notice before, the click sound is louder when you press the button with your thumb/finger touching the entire button surface. However, try using the very tip of nail and push down at the edge of Touch ID (near the metal ring). It will make a silent click.

Very handy when you don't want people in the next stalls ;) hearing your every home button click.

Please give a "like" if this tip helps you :)

This is a great tip. Thanks.

Install VirtualHome once there is a jailbreak. Definitely one of my top 5 tweaks. You only have to put a finger on the home button instead of actually clicking it. Plus, it allows you to wake your phone just by touching the home button

Another tip for using the 3D Touch app switching: I've found it hard to do with my right thumb while holding the phone in my right hand, but when holding the phone in my right hand, if I press the left edge and swipe with my left thumb, it works 100% of the time. Must have been designed this way.

Think there are different suppliers.... Having had 3 6s and one 6s plus, just one was deadly silent. The one with tsmc chip on board.
