Getting "Cannot connect to the App Store", trying to update.

I am on 10.8 Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my mid 2010 Macbook.

This is because the certificates for the App Store / ML as a whole have expired.

Unless someone has found a way to bypass the certificate checks, then the App Store is useless on ML.
