Hello there

I bought an Apple Watch last year and I started to walk in the park since 1st of January. I set myself an objective to lose 3 Kg per month. So far it’s working: I was 101 Kg 1st of January and today I’m at 88, for 178cm. I still have 9 Kg to lose.

I changed my diet. I stopped cookies at breakfast and I eat a yogurt & some fruits instead. I stopped soda & fast food, although I drink a can of Coke once in a while. I stopped traveling so no more food in the lounge & champagne in the plane.

Regarding exercises, I just can’t run. So instead I just go to the park, on average 12.5 Km. I usually walk for 2 hours everyday. I missed 10 days because I was sick but usually I try to close my rings everyday. I set the calories at 1000.

I’m quiet satisfied but I have no comparison point. I plan to go to a specialist to discuss this further but I was just wondering if 3 Kg per month is healthy and if 1000 calories is enough or not.

Also if anyone could share their experience that would be great.

Am I using the Watch properly for my goal?

1000 calories per day is impressive.

Remember, at the end of the day the rule for weight loss is simple - calories in versus calories out. Anything else is just an over complication of basic math principles.

As long as you maintain a deficit then you’ll continue to see results. In terms of what a healthy weight is for you - that’s only something you and your doctor can decide on.

It sounds like you’re really taking advantage of the Watch and getting some results. Congratulations on your progress!

Congratulations and well done on your achievements so far. Keep doing your normal routine that works for you and if at all possible try to walk quicker for longer. A good healthy balanced diet is essential, so cut out all the crap. I'm sure your doctor will be pleased with the results that you are achieving.

Once again, well done and keep it going.

Losing weight at that speed could put you at risk of developing gallstones. And you really don’t want that. It can hurt like hell and lead to some nasty complications, including sepsis. Check in with your doctor about whether you have any other risk factors. 1 or 2 kg per month is safer, at least until your body adjusts to what’s going on.

At the beginning of any weight loss effort you lose weight faster because your body is doing something it’s not used to and you’re seeing the benefit. The previous advise about calories in vs calories out is a good one. Keep that in the heart of what you’re doing and you’ll be just fine. Just ensure you’re not starving yourself. Cut out crap as you’ve done.

Well done on your achievement.

Thanks for your messages everyone.

I got a bit scared by the answer from mw360.

I just had a doctor appointment and he told 3 kg per month it’s fine. I forgot to test my cholesterol but on the other stuff he told me my blood is good quality. I told him I was drinking sometimes 3L of orange juice and it appears that’s a bit too much. I’ll stick to 2 glasses per day.

Overall I feel happy about the progress made so far, even mentally I feel a difference. I hope to reach 79 kg in 2 months. Then, I will try to not regain weight too much.

This is great! Keep up the good work.

Regarding diet and calories in and calories out it is not so easy. When you eat is almost more important. Giving your body time to process the food and doing its maintenance. Some form of intermittent fasting would benefit you tremendously. A soda once in a while is no problem and fruit is full of fibers and vitamins that gives you more pros than cons due to the fruit sugar.

1000 kcal goal on the watch is really good. It´s active calories so you are probably hitting 3000+ per day considering your body usually use around 2000 kcal just to run normally.

Keep up the good work! Good changes you have made to your lifestyle. Of course, none of your new regime required you to buy the Apple Watch. Like quitting smoking...when you have come to the decision that now is the time to get healthy your inner fortitude and mental attitude are the keys, not an expensive watch. But whatever works for you is what is important. Follow your doctor's advice, not Mr. Cook. ;)
