I shot a video in a HD camera(mini dv) which isn't mine. Now I am trying to use my old camera(mini dv) that is not HD to import the footage into final cut. The problem is that I can not even see the image when I play it on the camera, it looks like the tape is empty. What should I do?? Is there a way to import ir or I would have to use the same camera??

You'll need to get the HDV camcorder back. Your miniDV camcorder won't be able to import the footage for you.

My guess would be yes.

The 2 cameras record in different formats, but on the same type of tape.

Can someone answer this, will an HD camcorder play back a mini-DV tape recorded on a non-HD camcorder? You know, like when it's time to upgrade because the old Mini-DV Cam dies...

Panasonic SDR-H250 HD Camera and iMovie o8

I went out and bought imovie 08 for my panny sdr-h250, since it worked in the apple showroom. But when i brought it home and plugged it into my imac dual intel 1.83 Ghz MAC OSX 10.4.11 system, it wouldn't work - why? Do I need Leopard??

This issue is one of the reasons I went with HDV on MiniDV tape.

Thank God, I looked here before I bought my new Camcorder, I was about to pick up one of the HDD units. Seeing that it did not have a Firewire connector I began to look into that issue.

I even posted a thread here titled " What Does It Take To Get Firewire "

All responses led me to HDV.

To The OP:

Can you not return it on the basis that it is not compatible with your computer?

Not sure about making returns in the UK as I am in the US an I know consumer laws vary widely.

I have about a hundred tapes in DV ( MiniDV ) format recorded on a Sony DCR-TRV-11.

They all playback on my new Canon HDV ( MiniDV ) camcorder.

So yes they are backwards compatible, for now.

On the Canon HV30 I can even RECORD in DV format if I desired to do so.

ALSO I have recorded HDV on normal old MiniDV tapes instead of the HD MiniDV tapes.

iLife 08 works on PPC-based Macs.
All apps in iLife 08 will except for iMovie 08 which will work on a G5 but NOT on a G4 (too slow).

and its funny that people want to save time by shooting to HDD, then end up having to transcode, reformat and jump through hoops just to get the footage into the editor. seems to me that miniDV caputre is much less of a headache. its 100% supported by ALL current and most older editing systems.
Screw tape. My Sony SR-42 is a HDD SD cam (MPEG2) and it works beautifully with Leopard and iMovie 08. The transfer is so bloody fast it's a shame people still use tape ... and this is with USB 2. If it were firewire it would be even faster.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I can't beleive it took so long for someone to answer though.
