getting mac to recognize camera

when i plug my camera in then turn it on iphoto pops up and i can do anything with the pictures...

but how do i see just the camera without iphoto.. like enabling disk use

iPhoto Preferences->General. Change the last item to: No application.

Most cameras do not mount as disks on OSX. Use Image Capture, iPhoto, Aperture or similar to get the images off the camera.

ya but my problem is i was trying to use exif untrasher to get deleted pictures off my camera and when i go to search for my camera... i cant get to it

You'll need to take the memory card out and put it in a card reader: you cannot get filessystem level access to the camera or any card in it.
