Getting my iPhone contacts from iTunes?

Hey guys,

As some of you may now, my 3G is now completely unusable, so until I get my 4G and all of the stuff transferred across to it somehow (hopefully I can do this?) I was wondering if there's a way to open the iTunes backups just regularly in Windows to get my phone contacts?

The folder seems to be full of mdinfo and mddata files that are absolute garbage in a text editor
