I'm currently using an iPhone X. It's fine, don't love it. I have the chance to pick up a brand new 8+ for $600 (which I would probably use for a few months until I could get the newer 6.5" X+). Assuming I can sell my X for $800 now and being that the the new devices won't have any sort of home button will there be any sort of market for an 8+ in a few months. If I pocket $200 now, will I be able to get $400 for my 8+ later on? Am I better off handing on to the X? Thoughts?

A lot of questions here no one can specifically answer based on what the market determines. My advice is find what Phone _you_ think offers the best tech that fits your preferences and needs. Tech in general will depreciate, but the phone experience should be our priority versus over all savings.

The X and 8 are solid devices, but the major disparity being Face ID, form factor, camera and display. I think the X is the phone I would keep over the iPhone 8 for said reasons above, but you need to make that decision.

It seems you’ve entered this thought loop because $600 seems like a good price for a brand new 8-Plus. Strip out all the pondering and focus on one question. Is $600 an attractive price tag for something you don’t need (you have a phone already and have stated your intention to switch it later in the year anyways) or want (you said it yourself, you want the X Plus)?
