Most real pro-users have their own calibration equipment and calibrate all their displays the second they open them up.

They do? I do pro AUDIO work. It shouldn't be my problem to calibrate Apple's screens because they scr*wed up. If at least Apple's system preferences would let you calibrate your display properly, like nVidia drivers etc., I could fix it myself. Someone at Apple should get fired if this is really simply down to a calibration mistake.

They'll probably wait until rev 'b' is out and then release a fix for the rev 'a' on the quiet.:)

that's the problem! Unless you've calibrated to get true whites, you won't notice the yellow cast....

True. But once the yellow cast is gone, it's gone. I still don't perceive an additional yellow cast at the bottom of the display, even after calibration. What I do notice is that the lower ~20% is ever-so-slightly darker depending on viewing angle, but I have to look really, really hard to see it.

In any case, all this discussion about display flaws has caused me to notice something wrong with nearly every LCD I've encountered over the past week. Just looking around at the various makes/models in my office, I see every little color cast and illumination problem. Some are quite bad to my eyes. Others are perfectly acceptable. None of my co-workers seem to notice one way or another. Obviously the technology isn't as perfect as we would like, but I think I'll go back to being ignorant of such things. It'll drive me crazy otherwise! ;)

I've tried using this color profile for awhile but I'm still unsatisfied. I have my new MBP sitting here right next to a Cinema display screen and the MBP is magenta compared to it, and *extremely* green using the standard profiles. Am I screwed until I can get ahold of an EyeOne to calibrate my own monitor?

I tried using a borrowed Monaco EZColor calibrator to no avail. It's far too magenta, and a lot darker as well.

Sorry to make my first post a lame question, but to the OP, do you feel like the quality of your MBP screen is up to par and correctly calibrated with Apple Cinema displays? I am not sure what I can do. I ran the Apple color calibrated moved the white point down to about 6300 and I feel like it's a little better, but it's still a lot darker and greener than the Cinema.

Iam having a problem how to add this to my displays any one know how to get to show in there?

Had the same question...

This profile was generated on a Samsung screen. I'm not surprised that this profile doesn't look great for everyone (well, I'm kind of surprised that it would look purple). Really, a screen should be calibrated every two to four weeks using a proper calibration device. I work in VFX and our screens (which art CRT Trinitron tubs) drift quite significantly over the course of a month. I'm not sure if the same applies to LCDs, but I would think that there would be at least some drift there.

There's no way this profile will get you spot on with an Apple Cinema display. But if you were to use a proper calibration device (the Eye One 2 has been great for me) on both screens, you should be able to get them very close to each other. It's always hard to get the exact same amount of contrast or the same amount of detail in the blacks, but you should be able to get the actual colours really close.

Also, calibrating to 6500k is always jarring for people that are used to looking at cooler white points. It's definitely a warmer white point, but it's the standard for graphics and film work.

For some reason it makes mine look reddish rather than blueish.

Doesn't look right - anyone else noticed that it goes reddish rather than blueish?

I've attached the icc profile that I've generated. Give it a shot and see how it works for you. Every monitor is different, but this should get you a lot closer to an industry standard calibration than the built-in profiles do.
Thanks for sharing! :D
My first impression was that it was way too blue. But after using it for a couple of minutes I agree that colors looks more real.

Hi all,

If you want to try another colour profile for your MacBook Pros... get it from https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/316386/

I was very dissatisfied with the display of the MBP SR, I was ready to return it. I tried everything to get away with the pink/purple cast in standard applications, even after using many hardware recalibrate with my Monaco XR.
When I was not straight at the screen and moved my head up and down, I saw all colors of the rainbow.

Hi-There,
you should get an award by putting your profile on the internet. It works fantastic with my matt LG screen. it gives the same color balance like my hardware calibrated Dell 24" screen.

It doesn't show a color shift when you move the screen up and down. (only in extreme angles I see it).
Also the light fall off is also less visual at the bottom.

From now on I enjoy my MBP SR as no other windows laptop in the past.
This laptop is so fantastic now.
-I love the usefulness of the lightning keyboard.
-The long battery live 4 to 4:50 hours (real measured) with OSX.
-My Dell Laptop Latitude 505 looks now as it came from communistic Russia 20 years ago. (I never noticed this finishing touch when I saw it in shops before).
-Super stable operatiion.
-casing: so thin and smooth edges.
-the form factor (fits better in narrow airplane seat, lower screen height)
-trackpad (scrolling with 2 fingers, right click by tapping with 2 fingers, etc).
-keyboard feel.
-etc..

Note: My 2 sons have Lenovo laptops, with the highest specs and they have very robust casing but they have there issues also. One of them have death spots on the screen and one screen line missing at the bottom. (all his school friends have the same issue). The grass seems always greener somewhere else.

Thanks again "Hi-There" for sharing your proflle.

this profile is Awesome,
many thanks.

I cant believe Apple ships the current profile?

I didnt realize how bad it was till i tried your profile.
