Unless the heat is harming you in some way, I'm not sure why this matters so much.

I don't understand why when my CPU temp reach 80C+ the fan speed still remains at 2100 RPM. The keyboard keys become hot to touch yet the fans do nothing to help the system cool down? I have to use smcfancontrol to bring the RPM up to 3100 to bring down the temp

I have the same issue on 13". I think about resetting SMC, have you tried that?

I had six tabs open in Chrome and it was running at about 85 degrees celsius with the fans on full blast. I checked the CPU usage and it was only at 10%. After closing 4 of the tabs the temperature dropped to 72 degrees celsius and now you can barely hear the fans.

Maybe just use safari instead of chrome for now? if it happens with safari maybe you should bring it in for store if it's still under warranty. I was so used to chrome when I had a PC, so I installed on my 15in rMBP too. I noticed a significant decrease in performace using chrome. Opening a new tab then open the same page in chrome was very laggy, took forever to the point I decided to do the same thing in safari. Opened almost instantly and super smoothly. Now I only use safari unless I want to access the bookmarks I have in chrome saved from my PC.

While comparing I have the 2.7 2013 model. I have 8 tabs open and 6 are 1080p and 2 are 4k vids. It got up to 105 once and bounces between 104-98. Just for comparison and data. Very hot for my taste.

I had my System fixed last week at the Apple Store, and on the replaced logic board and heat sink my temps are extremely cool. Even while Gaming under windows the system runs that much cooler.

Old system temps would be 90-95 on CPU with Throttle Stop enabled. And 70-77 on the GPU throttling like a SOB.

With the heatsink/mainboard replaced I get an average of 80-90 on the CPU, no longer requiring throttle stop, GPU OC'ed to 1035/2800 and get about 72 on the GPU.

No throttling or down clocking anymore. So my conclusion is this, he thermal paste was correctly applied by the apple tech, or there was something severely wrong with my heatsink paste combination of my original system, most likely caused by poor QA/QC from Apple's manufacturer Foxconn.

I have always used Safari on my Macs, but I decided to give Chrome a try. I'll go back and see if the issues stop.

My early '13 13" retina runs icy cool nearly all the time. Makes such a change from my Vaio before that which would heat up without even doing anything!
