Getting very frustrated

so im trying to install my canon pixma mx310. i have done the cd setup and it says that software is installed. now heres the problem. when i go to find the printer in my system preferences, it wont show up. ive gone to add new printer, but it still wont show. if anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Is it connected directly, or via a network.

Also, you could try downloading the latest drivers from canon's website.

oh yeah sorry. its connected directly.
