I've been playing around with Core Location and have been able to successfully get the latitude and longitude no problem. All I really need though is the zip code of the users phone, if possible. Does anyone know of any good examples of someone doing this or could point me in the right direction?

You say "zip code of their phone." A phone doesn't have a zip code... it has an area code.
And if you want area code, it's not necessarily location based.

It sounds like he/she is trying to obtain the zip code the person/iphone is currently located. Is this correct?

You need to use reverse geocoding. That is not part of CoreLocation. With 2.x SDK you need to use an external service. With 3.0 I believe MapKit has it (which essentially is your app calling Google's reverse geocoding service) I think.
