I have an locked AT&T iphone 4S iOS 5.1 and am going to buy the Gevey Ultra ver.1.6 from applenberry soon. I need to use the phone outside of the US using other carriers.

hey guys I can't get my iPhone 4S Locked to Rogers Running iOS 5.1 Stock (Not Jailbroken). I am using Gevey Ultra S and using it on AT&T, Everything works but I cannot Activate iMessage and FaceTime, I keep getting the text message saying failed because its a Rogers iPhone 4S on AT&T network, It isn't able to send the message to Rogers Shortcode for iMessage and FaceTime activation.....Also because there is no jailbreak for it, I cannot edit the carrier.plist.....to the international number or AT&T's short code....anyone know how I can get around this or fix it? Anyone else having issue?
Yes, the Gevey UltraS V 1.6 or the R-SIM III will work to unlock Canadian iPhone 4S carrier phones, except neither will unlock a Fido 4S for some strange reason.
Here's my thread covering the iMessage and FaceTime Activation issue, I covered regarding Rogers,Telus & Bell iPhone 4S but it applies to any iPhone 4S being used on any carrier other than its original.....(were not talking about factory unlocked ones as they don't face such issues)

would be great for those you with jailbroken on 5.0.1 iPhone 4S if u can try some of my suggestions, basically the activation for iMessage & FaceTime doesn't happen when you use on un-official carrier is because not many carriers use apple's +01144xxxxxxxx international activation number for iMessage & FaceTime so they have their own short codes to save on sending international texts and passing that saving onto the customers.....otherwise everyone would have a decent size bill if they continuously activated and deactivated iMessage&Facetime. So when you use gevey the issue is seen firsthand as Gevey uses the carrier.plist from the original carrier instead of the Carrierlab.bundle's plist.....now to fix the issue one would either have to copy the files from the carrierlab.bundle into the AT&T/Rogers/Bell/Telus folder or edit the carrier.plist in your respectable carrier's folder....change out their short code to the international number.....n jus do the activation once...but do note that each time u turn off n on u will have to pay the text charge if its not included in your package and if your carrier blocks it then you will have to request your carrier to allow it.
to OP who created this thread no disrespect I'm not trying to steal people from here but would be great if u guys can share your input on my thread as its got plenty of detail to date that I have posted on possible solutions....unfortuntely I cannot try my own solutions due to my 4S being on 5.1 but the moment it does I will be more than happy to try it out and share the results.

Just an Update
Finally got back to the island to I used a sim card cutter, trimmed the regular sim into a micro sim, put the local sim over the gevey tray and put it into my iphone 4S on 5.0.1
It literally took 5 seconds to unlock the phone plug and play
I use iMessage through my email so Ive never actually tried out if the local phone number works on iMessage

hey I have an iphone 4s on Sprint too but I cant unlock it. I do all the steps but the succesful unlock message never pops up.
