PMU restet...

I should know this ... but can someone remind me what happens when you reset the PMU - any data / setting that will be lost, is it generally a good thing to do once in a while?

cheers

Justin :D

My 867 shows 533Mhz with the sysctl

I seem to remember this problem on my old Dell laptop (read intel 'speedstep' technology).

That value gets set when the machine is started. If the machine is started on the battery, then the sysctl value would probably be the stepped down speed (533 for the 867Mhz, 667 for the 1Ghz, 867 for the 1.25, etc).

When the value itself gets set the system isn't loaded, so its reading the lower value. Resetting the PMU just makes it forget its energy saving settings, etc. That's all.

i just tried the terminal thing and the xbench... both show my 1gig tibook at 667... my energy saving is turned to maximum cpu... how do you reset PMU??? im kinda ticked off... like one of the other posters said... i paid for a gig... not a 667...

if it's running as you expect it to (i.e. equivalent to other 1 Ghz G4 powerbooks), what's the difference what the terminal says?
