GENEVA (AFP) - A giant inflatable dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy blew away from an exhibition in the garden of a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a greenhouse window before it landed again, the museum said Monday.

The art work, titled "Complex S(expletive..)", is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 metres (yards) from the Paul Klee Centre in Berne before it fell back to Earth in the grounds of a children's home, said museum director Juri Steiner.

The inflatable turd broke the window at the children's home when it blew away on the night of July 31, Steiner said. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away.

Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display.

Click on this link for an amusing pic (at first I read that as supposed to be a pic of the dog turd):

Well, the link doesn't have a pic of the "art" in question, but that sounds friggin hilarious.

"Miss Blattz, Miss Blattz, there's a giant turd outside and it broke my window!"

If the misspelling is intentional, then it's even more genius. :p

It is probably the American spelling…
    But funny nonetheless.

    God I hate modern art.

And that artist almost specifically. As bad as Jeff Koons or Cristo.

I don't "get" a lot of modern art, I must say. I'd like the artist to explain why this "art" is a dog turd and not a deposit from another animal.

Quite a funny end to the piece though.

It blew away in the wind, yes?

You know, I always wondered what the expression "when the s*** hits the fan" would actually look like. Now I know :D

Such utter twaddle. I'm sure that's how all the classic artists described their work.

I shall make a giant foam phallus being clutched by a huge foam hand. It will be titled "The Big Wank" and then provide a florid, obtuse description talking about "conflicting emphases", "palpable tension", "differential zones of contact", "kinematic expression", rigid forms progressing towards an artistic release", and other invented nonsense.:D;):rolleyes:

"Giant inflatable dog turd wreaks havoc" would have been better (was the reek/wreak pun intentional? - I wonder...)

Thank god we've got "pooper scooper" laws in the States.:D

Anyhoo...I don't get so called modern art. Most of the time, all I see is a bunch of crap pulled from landfills glued/welded/nailed/taped together and called art.

I don't know much about art, but I know what I like.;) IMO, if you have to explain what you're trying to portray, it's not art. Like a bad joke, you have to explain the punchline, it's not a good joke.
