My family recently came to US 2 years ago, and my dad has always wanted to have a car to drive around in Texas. I'm probably getting a summer job and should be able to save up around 7k, and I really want to gift him. But the problem is that I'm living in Chicago, so is there anyway to buy a car for him beside sending the money (which is less suprising)?

Maybe you could purchase the car on Ebay from a seller who is close to where your father lives, an inspection can also be done prior to purchase.

Buy a $6500 car instead of a $7000 car. Use the difference to fly to Texas, buy it, deliver it in person (double surprise) and fly back.

And it's an amazingly nice thing to be thinking of doing, good on you

Yes, this would be amazing. Just take a weekend to do it, and it would become two surprises in one... a new (used) car, and a visit from his son!
