Hi,

Does anyone know of an easy way (using the GIMP) to achieve a reflection effect? I have a rectangular image that I would like to have a faded reflection of underneath it - a bit like this:

Thanks,

Don't forget to apply shadows to the reflected objects; this is a critical component to selling the "3D object reflected on the floor" effect.
Refer to the image you posted.

Shadow:
Load the trans mask of the object as a selection, and on an empty layer below, fill it with a black-trans gradient from bottom-top, distort it to lay on the horizontal reflective plane toward the vanishing point, blur the shadow slightly, then set the blend mode to multiply and the opacity to 25%.

Tweak this basic procedure to achieve a realistic shadow.
