My girlfriend is the owner of a a 2007 White Macbook "crackbook". It is running snow leopard and is definitely showing its age. She doesn't really use it anymore since its so slow and old. She is interested in a new macbook pro.

Doesn't game and would use it for basic internet browsing, tv streaming and MS Office.

I think the base 13" macbook pro would be fine right? She isn't interested in the touch bar and would like this machine to last her at least 5 years.

Sounds like her needs are very basic and the base MacBook Pro would be plenty. It is a bit limited as far as ports go though, so you would want to make sure she can live with that restriction.

Seriously, she's been making a 9 year old MacBook work for her? That's amazing! Yes, any MacBook/Macbook Air will work. I don't know I'd spend the extra on a Pro... It's a lot more $$ and processing power she'll never use. I went from a 2012 13" MacBook pro to a 2015 MBA and I can't believe how much better of a machine it is! So, for whatever it's worth, keep that in mind.

I'd actually go for a refurbished 13" Macbook Air. Apple is selling one for $849 in their online store right now as I type this.

I have been using a MBP that I got refurbished from Apple a few years ago and I have only upsized my storage after a few years. I would suggest refurbished for anyone looking for a Mac.

I would recommend getting a 2015 13" MBP and save some money. It has good performance and selection of ports (no issues with having to get USB-C adaptors).

What about the MacBook? The thinnest one? She can get the color she wants including Gold and Rose Gold. It might cost her more but it's so beautiful IMO.

Oddly enough, if you put an SSD in (super easy) and max the RAM (super easier), and install Windows 10 on it (not a bad OS), it'll extend the life of that machine by at least a few years.

2015 MacBook Pro 13" base models will probably be selling at very good prices in holiday sales.
Perhaps after the New Year, as well.

These are probably the best buy of the entire MacBook/MBPro line right now...
