I like to read the Metro newspaper, with either TuneIn Radio or Relax Melodies playing in the background.

When listening to TuneIn whilst reading, my station of choice is Smooth Radio.

I’ve tried having podcasts playing in the background, but I get distracted from reading as I try to follow what’s being said in the podcast.

You?

I have it sitting in my bathroom, and use it while I sit in there as well.

I play some old games and read online comics.

A modern take on reading the newspaper whilst pooping ;).
This is why I don't like buying used electronics. :p

Seriously though, I use the iPad a lot. Reading comics, ebooks, web browsing, online shopping, online banking, etc. Starting around iOS 9, I rarely used our home PCs anymore.

Only time I switch to the desktop/laptop is when I need to manage my Calibre ebook library (including copying DRM-free books to my Kindle/Kobo) or when a webpage isn't playing nice on iOS.

Don't get me started on online shopping .

I regularly use my iPhone for my online banking, but I have the same apps on my iPad.

The iPad is great for researching things that you’re currently pursuing.

The only time I use my iMac is when I transfer music from it to my other devices.

Which iPad are you currently using? If you have a recent Pro, I highly recommend the Magic Keyboard.

I love the horizontal view more than on my iPhone, and the touch screen allows me to do quick checks vs clicking in like I would on my iPhone or laptop.

I’m slowly discovering little tricks that’s making me use my iPad more than what I originally brought it for.

I use it for perusing MacRumors and the rest of the internet, as well as listening to music, audiobooks, podcasts, spreadsheets, writing journals and books, reading, remote controlling my Mac mini, Airplay to my 4K tv using Screenshift, tracking my health results, AirDrop, and probably many other things I can’t think of at the moment.

2017 iPad Pro 10.5" + Pencil

I own my own business and work out of my home office all day. I use the iPad, Pencil, and the app Noteshelf to jot down ideas, take notes during client phone calls, and other tasks I used to use a pile of paper legal pads for in the past.

Beyond that, not much. I'm not really a "fan" of the iPad or tablets in general, and only bought this one because I got a really good deal on it used. For this particular narrow use-case, however, it works great.

Since COVID the only thing I use my iPP for that is work related is signing invoices, otherwise 99% of my iPP use is personal. I work in a CAD heavy, Windows dominated profession so Apple devices will never dominate my productivity side.

TV watching (HBO, Netflix, YoutubeTV, Youtube), web browsing, forum lurking via Tapatalk, online shopping in Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot apps . . that's pretty much it.

Boom Beach....Email, Microsoft Office, Calendar appointments, File organization One Drive, Messages, Online shopping, Mac Rumors, Current News, Absolutely no social media except MR, On line banking, View Photos, Google search, Maps locations and directions.

Right at this moment, I'm typing this post on the 12.9" iPad Pro (2nd gen) with Netflix downloaded shows playing in the background on a 10.5" iPad Pro. I've also got a 10.5" iPad Air (3rd gen) and 10.2" iPad with PDFs I'm reviewing for work sitting side by side on my desk, plus Excel spreadsheets and Access databases on the dual monitors on the Windows desktop. :p

Waiting to see what the next Pro models bring before I upgrade from the 2017 Pro 12.9 and 10.5.

Not interested in the Magic Keyboard. Only time I use the iPad on a desk is at the office and I prefer a keyboard that I can easily switch among multiple devices (including Windows desktop).

Web browsing, shopping, bank accounts managing, reading and manage PDFs, reading books, notes with Apple Pencil, notes with OneNote, reading comics, Airplay music to Sonos, reading RSS feeds, watching shows while in the kitchen (cooking, eating, washing...), watching youtube in bathroom, managing email, drawing with Procreate, listen TuneIn at nights while sleeping (chill tunes), control Spotify, family video-calls, reading news apps, sports apps, sometimes playing chess, desing apps mockups (i am a developer), and so on

MacRumors posting and other internet stuff, drawing in Procreate, ArtRage & Sketches Pro, reading magazines, PDFs, books and comics, PDF markup, YouTube, watching movies, blogging, online shopping.

I would like to dabble in video creation, editing and other stuff. Waiting to see what the Air 4, next iPP offers.

Still need a Mac, but I do use this 2019 iPad a lot.

While working my iPad is usually playing music or streaming video. Personal time is spent browsing web, shopping, lite gaming, video, music, communication (video/audio), reading comics, etc. Every now and then I do some personal work on it. I’d like to use it for more personal work, but it doesn’t have the apps I would need for that... yet

I use my iPad every day: during ward round to take note about patients, to study papers and books in pdf, to watch films and tv series, to write papers, to surf internet and forums. My major complaint is that, after 10 months of ipad pro 12.9 2018, I think it could be a better idea to buy at least 256gb (free brain) and overall LTE version.

I’m currently using mine for studying using PiP videos and Apple’s notes app from the comfort of my sofa. I also use it to read and reply here, for Apple News+ and books.
I purchased a 4G model specifically so that when university restarts I can do my lectures outside as we have been informed the only campus access we allowed is for lab time and I hate doing lectures from home.

Mine is used for banking, paying bills, shopping, news, email, YouTube, MacRumors, net surfing, and occasional document creation with Pages or Numbers.

conference calls
internal apps for work (Salesforce, Office 365, Slack, etc.)
video editing (LumaFusion)
audio editing (Garage Band and Ferrite)
photo editing (Affinity Photo)
graphic design (Affinity Designer)
music composition (Notion)
drawing and sketching (Procreate)
note taking (native Notes app and OneNote)
reading books (iBooks)
email
music
TV and movies
games
Twitter
FaceTime video and audio with friends and family

I'm sure there are other things that I'm missing. I use my iPad for everything and prefer it over my Mac any day of the week.

Nice one Spider-Man :)

Fantastic case study IMHO of the type of users Apple was originally for. Music, Videos, Photos - the arts.

I‘m coming from a Office work, excel etc. Background, so all this IPAD fun stuff is alien to me.

Its cool though, using Tech for personal stuff outside of my “work” environment.

I hit 50 this year, looking into the retirement years. It will be good to use computers, and be the hell alway from reminders of work when the time comes to retire.

E.g.
Number app
= Refreshingly different and simple

Excel app
= Pull hair out - where the hell has the settings been put now etc.?
= Why am I putting up with this outside of work?! :)

Regards
Martin

I'm only a tad younger than you--just turned 43 this summer--but I more or less grew up on Windows/Office. My brief encounter with Macs in the bad old days of early/mid 90s Apple turned out to be a disaster and I had sworn them off for life.

But the iPhone 4 turned out to be my gateway drug. I bought one of those and before I knew it, there was at least one of everything Apple makes in my house. There was a point in time where I didn't feel like the iPad was moving in the direction I needed in order to be productive with it, so I stopped using them completely for about a year, but the iPad Pro was just irresistible to me and I bought one to serve as a supplement to my Mac.

A couple of iOS, er, iPadOS versions later and I sold my personal Mac and haven't owned one since. I do still have my work Macbook Pro, but it's not because I need a crutch from macOS. It's simply because my employer requires me to work on company equipment. And in that situation, I'm more than happy to choose Mac.

I carry around and use my iPad mini at home all day like a huge phone—communication, reading, browsing, music/podcasts, background video, and quick emails/calendar/notes.
I also have a 12.9” iPad Pro + keyboard case + pencil that I pull out for more serious things like drawing, heavier typing, research, bills and banking, conference calls, and PDFs.
