After wrestling with Pages and Numbers since moving to the iMac 5 months ago I have finally admitted defeat and bought Word and Excel for the Mac.

The formatting problems proved too much when saving as a Word document to send out to others.

Shame really, as the Apple offerings were good in their way but too niche for real world use.

Now I can communicate with the rest of the world without any hassle - great!

That's basically iWork in a nutshell; It's perfect in Apple's world, but not so perfect if exporting ever comes in to the equation.

Your experiences mirror mine. The final straw for me, was the ability to edit my documents on an iPad. With office not on the iPad there was no reason for iWork.

Too bad, because I really tried using and liking iWork

I tried and tried to like Pages and Numbers for a year and a half but about a month ago I finally gave up and went to OpenOffice. I realized that the longer I waited, the more files I would have that I would need to convert.
