I just purchased a new 27 iMac and I have noticed the glass panel is slightly mis-aligned. I know the panel is held on by magnets, but is it possible to shift it from side to side ? ( less than mm should do it ). I have no experience with this issue and before I put a suction cup to it, want to know if anyone else has had this issue. I don't want to lug the computer back to the Apple store if it is a simple adjustment.

I would be extremely careful with a thin 27" piece of glass. Maybe remove it, and pop it back on and hope and re-aligns its self?

What did you end up doing?

I returned the iMac to the Apple store. After inspection they decided to replace the computer with a new one. According to them, replacing the screen was not possible. They were excellent in accommodating me, without asking they offered to open the box and allow me to inspect the replacement before taking it home. Luckily this one was much better. While I am happy with the outcome, I am disappointed that it took three computers to find one acceptable.
I do believe Apple needs to improve their quality inspection. It appears to be the glass is either not cut close enough to tolerance or is of square.

So they gave you a brand new iMac for a 1mm displacement of the glass panel? Why couldn't they just adjust it? Seems like it would take them 2 seconds to do.

Also, was this within 14 days of purchase? I'm at 27 days, so I may be out of luck. Either way...so minor and I'm glad everything else works great.

For those who aren't afraid to fix this on their own... What needs to be done to fix this is to remove the glass, loosen the screws that hold the screen, shift the screen & tighten screws, reattach the glass.

The display panel has the magnets attached and has a LITTLE bit of play when the screws are loosened allowing the glass alignment to be adjusted.

The glass panel has four positioning pins, it 's not as simple as shifting the glass. I believe the video camera has to be repositioned to line up with the view window. Someone with better experience may be able to share more detail here. I also had a dented base pedestal which may have been the reason for swapping it out to a new unit. This was all within the 14 day return.

So, did they swap it out for a new one without much debate? Or, did they want to fix the problem instead of doing a swap?

Also, did they just give you a completely brand new unopened iMac box? Or did they only swap the computer itself?
