Just imagine the number of people who would sue apple over neck and back problems lol.. And where would your palm rest when you type? The palmrest on the current macbooks is made out of plastic and they are all cracking, to solve the situation Apple would replace it by glass? no way.. Im not saying they wont im saying they shouldnt..

9to5Mac posts a brief teaser about the next MacBook. Hidden within the text of the posting is simply "glass trackpad!!!!".

No further details are provided so readers are left guessing at the implication of a "glass trackpad" would be.

Honestly I do not see the advantage of a glass trackpad. Or it must be that big that it actually functions as a screen, but guess that instead of RSI at the wrist we'll be having RSI at the neck cause all that looking down and then up would annoy the hell out of me for sure.....but guess it might also prove to be a matter of adjusting to something new and innovative....yeah apple!

oh just saw that my upstairs neighbour had the same thought as me!!:D

By the way, I hope that if the Macbook goes Touch that they give you a lifetime supply of iKlear with that...how I HATE seeing fingerprints on my screen!

An old one:

This is still my favorite mock up. It would not surprise me if one day Apple would introduce this.

that looks stunning

for those who laugh at the thought of a glass trackpad u have obviously not used your iphone or touch to control your mouse like i do.

let me tell you its fantastic, its so much silkier then plastic and very stylish which means its very apple

do it steve give us glass

most aren't knocking glass, they're knocking a glass trackpad. I think most are expecting the next move to be touch screen, stripping the need for a trackpad altogether. You have to admit, trackpads are rather archaic considering the alternatives around and on the horizon.

go look up the cost of 13 and 15 inch touch screens:rolleyes:

My guess is that you will just be able to use your existing iPhone or iPod touch as the trackpad for the Macbook line. this would mean that every existing Macbook and new Macbook would be able to use the same touch-screen trackpad technology. It doesn't even have to be embedded on the laptop hardware; you could keep it on your lap or on the desk next to your computer if you want.

Possibly can be done with a significant Remote App update and a software update.

Sounds nice huh?

That sounds like a really good next step for Apple. This feature of using the iPhone/Touch on a Mac would spur more sales of Macs for existing iPhone owners and vice versa.

As cool as a touch screen would be, I'm not sure it's as ergonomically sound as the trackpad option is. When I interned in a safety engineering position, we'd get complaints from the people who operated the touch screen interfaces on the machines for longer periods of time.

"Brick" = Mouse Replacement

I've of the mind that the mysteriously named "brick" will be the replacement for the current Mouse; it would be similar to the iPod touch or iPhone, and the first step towards a wholly new touch-based UI paradigm.

This would also, obviously, be the "glass trackpad" being integrated into the new portables. And this transition from mouse to touch to touch UI could fit into the transition talk in the investor's call earlier in the year.

You are definitely onto something!! :)

Apple's also patented a multi-touch mouse, so that would tie into the "brick."

Anyone else concerned with potential loss of battery life with the incorporation of an additional LCD to be powered by the book?? I hear some rumors of a new battery technology that creates smaller spaces between contacts or something of that nature with 60% performance increases, but it's nowhere near ready to be mass produced. Any other thoughts?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a dream...

Right I'm fed up with all these rumours. Whatever they produce now it'll be a resounding disappointment. I'm now in a state where I'll have a tantrum if my new :apple: Macbook Pro doesn't have:

  • something that looks like the one below, but with an iphone sized trackpad to reduce cost, as Apple must be good friends with the supplier of those and a huge one is unnecessary.
  • I want it to have two real physical mouse buttons.
  • I wanna be able to put the dock in the trackpad, so I can make my apps fullscreen without wasting a gap along the left or bottom of my screen
  • This'll keep my greasy fingers off the main display, but still be fine for switching apps, since I want to be able to flip between windows and apps without using my other hand for F3 (expose). This means I can browse and flip pages, and navigate my mac with one hand, and sip champagne, or smoke a victory cigar with the other when I'm not typing.
(BTW: This won't give me a bad neck as I'll only be glancing at it, and the true cost of the iPhone screen alone can't be *that* much extra).
  • I wanna have access to DVD/itunes menu controls on it with the video or other app fullscreen on the trackpad.
  • I want to be able to do slideshows/presentations/etc full screen whilst using the dock to flip, pause, etc.
  • I wanna be able to turn it off and display the dock normally to save power when using it on battery.
  • I want it to be able to write someone an email or memo with the keyboard, then pop a stylus out the side of the MBP and can add a quick sketch/doodle of my idea with the trackpad without having to do a long winded mouse-done drawing in a proper graphics package. (sometimes a diagram says a thousand words, but I don't want to spend 15mins drawing it in a drawing app with a mouse)
  • It shall have either a Quad-core, or Dual 3GHz processor
  • I want it to be expandable to 8GB RAM
  • I want a "battle of hastings" 1066MHz FSB
  • I want 2x 500GB, 16MB cache 5400rpm 2.5" 12MM SATA HDD, or equivalent 7200rpm drives, so I can either have 500GB RAID, or 1TB depending how I make up my mind.
  • It shall have a power brick with an ethernet connector and a built in 802.11n airport on, where the ethernet comes up the cable with the power. Then I only need 1 lead on my desk wherever I am when I'm using it plugged in, but if I unplug it switches to wireless network so I can use it anywhere nearby using the power brick as the wireless hub.
  • I want FW3200 port
  • I want an included FW400 to FW800/3200 adapter so I can plug my audio interface into it without having to go to Maplin on my way home.
  • I want a Blu-ray drive

That's not too much to ask is it? :D

what about this one ?
