A client recently asked me to change an image... It is a logo with an arced tagline under it.

"But take away the smoke and make the wording look like it was slammed to the bottom and then gold glitter splashed out from under it."

So like a wave of glitter?

I think I may use brushes to merely brush in the glitter, unless anyone has any better ideas.

Does anyone have any idea how to create this effect? Or any examples?

    Thanks guys...

use a photo of a glitter texture and then mask it out in the correct shape, dont try to make something like glitter by hand.

The easiest way would be take an ink splatter texture and then use that as your mask for the glitter photo.

The splash photo/mask is a good idea. I'm just sorry you have to deal with a client like that. When a client comes in with that much specificity it inevitably leads to a weak end result. It's the job of the designer to determine what visual tools will best represent the client's mission, vision and values. It's what we DO.
Oh well, such is the life of the professional designer! At least we're still getting paid to make drawings!
