Gmail contacts

I downloaded GMAIL to my Ipad and when I go to contacts none of my 'GROUP CONTACTS' are there, only individual names !!

That's correct. It only syncs what's in "My Contacts".

Did you try setting it up as an exchange account in your mail app?
