Gmail Exchange won't verify

So I picked up a new iPad last night and cannot get gmail exchange to verify

I'm entering all the details the same as my phone and other iPad but once I hit next it verifies for about a second then stops and stays on the enter account details pop up 😕

any ideas?

I know this is probably a dumb question but are you setting it up per these instructions:

If so not sure what the problem is.
