Just saw there was an update available for Gmail... Very annoyed that it didn’t mention iPhone X, I reluctantly updated it anyway, just because.

Opened it up, and lo and behold... full screen! FINALLY.

Why they didn’t mention this, I have no idea. But I remember seeing people complain about this before (myself included), so I thought I’d share.

I have the gmail app for those rare occasions when the stock mail app is acting weird, but I’ve never understood the appeal of it as a replacement for ios mail. It looks and feels like a kid’s toy.

Two reasons: instant push notifications, and easy search through your entire mail history.

Stock app only retrieves every 15 minutes, I believe. And only has a limited history of your Gmail emails (which I believe you can define in Gmail settings on the website). Also those emails get downloaded to the device and take up however much space you determine.

At least these are the reasons I switched years ago when the Gmail app first came out, so I’m not sure if anything has changed.

There's some meta-data specific to Gmail that some people consider really critical for managing/organizing their email (and/or integration with other G-services). I might actually take a look at it again, but I have non-gmail accounts and I like everything in one place (and the aforementioned Gmail specific stuff I don't care about).

I use it for push notifications and search.

I use it because I use labels for like the 30 emails address I have. Lol
