Google is rolling out an update to its Gmail app for iOS devices so that users can upload attachments from Apple's native Files app.

When the new feature becomes available, tap the paperclip icon when you're composing or replying to a message in the Gmail app. This will bring up a sheet with carousels for "Camera roll" and "Attachments" (formerly named "Recent attachments").

This new Attachments section will feature a special folder icon for directly accessing the contents of the Files app on your iPhone or iPad, including access to the native search and selection tools of the Files extension.

As for the rollout timeline for the Files integration, Google says there will be an extended rollout which may take longer than two weeks for "feature visibility." Whether that means this is a server-side change or requires an updated version of the app is unclear.

The Gmail app is a free download available on the App Store. [Direct Link]

I get the reasons why companies have extended rollouts.. it allows them to catch bugs before they become widespread, but Google takes this to the extreme. Gmail dark mode has been in extended rollout for MONTHS, no reported issues.. and yet still most people don't have it. What's the holdup? This new feature will be the same. In frustration at the lack of dark mode I've swapped over to iOS mail and have been pleasantly surprised...I don't miss the Gmail app anymore, and iOS mail already has the above feature too. Trying to remember why I even want to keep using their crappy app?

Did same and all my mails are running through the iOS Mail app fine = one less app on my phone.

Meanwhile, the stock iOS 13 Mail app can’t even perform basic functions reliably since iOS 13.0.

I hated that I needed to leave Apple’s ecosystem for a functioning mail app, but now that Ive been forced to Gmail, I’m not sure I will ever go back.

iOS mail already has the above feature too.
Before I read the comments I looked at my native Mail app and didn’t see it right away and assumed it was still like it was in 2008. Thanks to your comment I went back and tried again and figured it out. Guess I need to read release notes more often :)

I can care less about not having dark mode with Gmail now, this is the #1 feature I’ve been dying for, I hate having to start a new email when sending a file from files. This makes me extremely happy.

This is good but umm like the rest us of here..... @MacRumors you have some inside access. Where is dark mode we have been waiting as your last report was it's rolling out but nothing in last [2] updates?

Running fine since 13.1 with my 4 exchange accounts for me. I literally have none of the issues other people are complaining about. As with each new iPhone every year I set my phone up "as new" and configured my email accounts from scratch, so maybe that helped?

Agree, this was a non-starter to even consider the gmail app even though 4 of my 6 accounts are Gmail/G-Suite.

But dont want to share storage with Google Drive for our files (old 15gb per user legacy account) and Onedrive is just better IMO for office apps use; I can right-click a Word doc and open it in desktop Word which autosaves back to Onedrive. It just works the best for MS apps.

I just need the Gmail icon to match the rest of the colorful icons of Google apps.

Dark mode’s roll-out is a mystery. I have had it for months by now on Gmail app on both iPhone and iPad, but there are people on these forums, like you, who are still waiting for it. FWIW, my Google account starts with an “s” letter and is around 10 years old by now.

Where is the dark mode for Gmail? I dare you Google, I double dare you!

It has been there for me over the last few months and I have a regular Google account. Have you tried contacting Google directly and asking about it?

Lol all the people in this thread (me included) that still don’t have the dark mode setting for gmail rolled out to them. What a sad story for Google.
The Tuskegee experiments are a sad story. Native Americans during westward expansion are a sad story. The 2004 Sumatra-Andaman tsunami is a sad story. Not having dark mode for your emailis not a sad story, not even for Google. It’s a temporary minor annoyance to some people. Not that I expect proper perspective these days, especially on the internet.

Agreed with most who commented. Where’s the darn dark mode that was promised months ago, first?
Stock Mail app is just fine for me.

Lucky you. You're in the minority:

GMail app is way better the iOS mail. More features and iOS mail has not even heard of the snooze feature yet, a feature that every other email app has now. I have had dark mode on iOS gmail for months now...
