GMail app is way better the iOS mail. More features and iOS mail has not even heard of the snooze feature yet, a feature that every other email app has now. I have had dark mode on iOS gmail for months now...

To be fair Apple Mail simply cant do snooze. Snooze is done on the mail server and Apple Mail connects directly to your mail accounts; there is no Apple server involved.

Im sure there is some way they could support it through the app to talk back to the server, but my guess is it would be very complex and wont happen. It would be different for every mail service and be a mess.

Being able to attach via the files app and download via the files app is way more fundamental than “snooze” (which is a server function, not a client function, in any case). Shocking that gmail didn’t have this ability until now.

Yeah this delay in Dark Mode is ridiculous. You should see the Twitter posts and then gmail’s canned response. Lol.

Meanwhile, the stock iOS 13 Mail app can’t even perform basic functions reliably since iOS 13.0.

I hated that I needed to leave Apple’s ecosystem for a functioning mail app, but now that Ive been forced to Gmail, I’m not sure I will ever go back.
What basic functions are you referring to? I have used iOS Mail app since 2010. I currently have 6 mailboxes, 2 are Gmail, 2 are EAS, 2 are iMAP. So far I'm not missing anything relevant. I can work without issues.

Lucky you. You're in the minority:

That's my point though. Is everyone else simple upgrading to iOS 13? Or upgrading then restoring their data?

Clean install & clean set-up and I'm good. I've never done a restore or in-place upgrade and never had any problems, unlike many other people who don't clean install & set-up.

My IT department just sent out a mail about apple mail being broken. They have a ticket in with Apple and have confirmed it’s an issue with Apple mail clients.

Not that I expect proper perspective these days, especially on the internet.

Lol talk about lack of perspective.

Yes I obviously understand those are sad stories, but no one is talking about that on a tech forum, we're here talking about Google and their apps, which is what this story is about.

Maybe you should make sure people remember human atrocities on the story MR publishes about that instead.

The Tuskegee experiments are a sad story. Native Americans during westward expansion are a sad story. The 2004 Sumatra-Andaman tsunami is a sad story. Not having dark mode for your emailis not a sad story, not even for Google. It’s a temporary minor annoyance to some people. Not that I expect proper perspective these days, especially on the internet.

A thousand times, this. I come to MacRumors for the comedically wild lack of perspective, I rarely leave disappointed.

Funny as it is I had downloaded the app to see if anything new was showing (dark or this) and I JUST got dark mode in the last hour.

No attachments option yet though.

We can all appreciate that back in the earlier days of iOS, when Apple wasn't viewed as the world's premium handset company, maybe wiping your phone and installing iOS from scratch may have yielded a better user experience vs. updating a device OTA. But that is no longer acceptable. We are approaching the 14th iteration of iOS, and Apple should not expect the average user to completely wipe their phone and start without any backed up data.

In any event, many people with Mail issues have tried that and noticed no change or improvement.

Google LLC not giving you dark mode yet isn’t a sad story even in the tech world. It’s just a little thing. Perspective, my friend. Perspective and deep breathing. But hey, if your life will improve if they scratch that itch for you, here’s hoping.

Gmail is a true joke when it comes to rolling out new features. Take Dark Mode as an example. Four months after its first rollout many many users still lack the feature. Why? Truly ridiculous that Google doesn’t implement features straight into App updates instead of a slow ridiculous “rollout”.

I wish Mail worked in iOS13. I'm using Gmail and Outlook and trying to decide which one I like better.

I can care less about not having dark mode with Gmail now, this is the #1 feature I’ve been dying for, I hate having to start a new email when sending a file from files. This makes me extremely happy.
So you do care?

Left gmail app and iOS mail, went straight to outlook... haven’t looked back.
Same. I think it's worth mentioning that Outlook for iOS works with Gmail and other email providers. It's not just for Outlook.com or O365 accounts like many may assume.

yes, I used to care about dark mode not being implemented into gmail, but, my biggest gripe was not integration of files app. Now that it’s coming, I don’t care it anymore as long as files is implemented, which is important for my daily use.

To follow up used it for about 24 hours and still cant figure of how people think its a good app overall. I guess if you have 1 personal gmail account sure.

But say I want to see "all mail" (or all archive it really is) there is no way; only per account. Or all sent, all spam, etc. There is no way to do it by merged accounts, only all inboxes. So if I want to clean my spam box up I have to go to each of my 5-6 accounts to the spam folder and delete all. Rather than all being in 1 folder like every other 3rd party app out there (not iOS Mail which is my one gripe there too why every other folder type has a combined folder view)

Or certain emails I just have mark as read and archive via a rule, skip the inbox as I dont need to be bothered by them; but may want to go back and look eventually. So I have to flip through each account to see each one's archived mail.

Basically gmail expects you to use search for everything. That model just isnt convenient in 2020. The app just seems very 5-10 year ago way of doing email. Very basic other than a few gmail-specific features like snooze and send later.

I guess that's why its only a 4.4 star app, lower than most email apps.

And who decided in the trash bin to put the empty trash now button right there where you can accidentally hit it? Really dumb design decision even if there is a confirmation popup to confirm it.
