Gmail in Mail... is it reliable? Good? Is there push support?

Just wondering if Gmail is any better in Mail for Mac. I'm thinking about switching from Sparrow since that software is becoming pretty outdated, but I was worried it wouldn't work in the same way as Sparrow.

In the past, Mail has been a slow mess for me and/or hasn't received and downloaded email instantly as soon as it becomes available on Gmail.

What's everyone's experience? Stick with Sparrow? I was going to try Airmail but unfortunately they decided to screw me over by releasing "Airmail 2" as soon as I'd bought Airmail 1 and I didn't even have the chance to use it.

Mail under Yosemite's latest updates works marvellously with Gmail in my experience. When Yosemite was initially released, there were some occasional issues because they have completely rewritten the email backend from scratch, but since 10.10.3, I haven't had any problems at all.
