Since it seems that Apple and Google are pretty close in developing applications (Google Maps, Google default search engine, etc), I would expect GMail to office IMAP in the rumored "New Version" of GMail. I just hope it comes sooner than later!

ah, sounds like an interface update more than anything. with a google phone coming soon, i doubt google wants to give apple anything that will make their phone more useful. i'd love imap gmail more than anything, but i dont see it coming.

I'm just hoping they make GChat available through Safari...not for the iPhone specifically but I use Safari and Gmail on my laptop....

You do know that you can configure it to work in iChat, right? And get the POP3 running in the mail app... It seems better to me than using it in the browser.
