Check your DNS settings

If the problem is inconsistent and you tend to connect frodifferent places, it may be a network issue. Each wifi router you connect to has different DNS servers and they can cause issues.

The solution we found useful is to change over to the google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) when this issue occurs. Google DNS with google mail should work well together ;)

Fixing Gmail problem with Mac Mail

It took me forever to try and figure out what went wrong with my Gmail on MAc Mail. It kept telling me that the password was wrong, went I knew it wasn't .I even accessed my Gmail account and changed my password, that did not work. The fix is easy.

1. Login to your Gmail account with your browser.
2. Go to account settings page
3. disable 2-Step verification

Your Gmail account will now work again in you Mac Mail.

This worked for me. Cheers!

Two-step Verification

I tried every suggestion here, but it turns out that Two-Step Verification is not supported by apps like Mail. But there is a way around it with app-specific passwords.

If you have Two-Step Verification enabled and are still having this problem logging in, go to your Google Account > Security > App Passwords, and generate one for the app you are using. Then just enter that password into your mail settings (or wherever you're having the problem).
