I know that Gmail no longer supports push notifications with the builtin iOS Mail app. I have all 3 of my Gmail accounts setup as fetch (one is a Google Apps for Business account). It is set to fetch every 15 minutes but doesn't seem to be the most reliable regardless of device (iPhone & iPad). Sometimes if I don't manually check, an email can be up to an hour late. I read that some people have had similar issues.

I want to continue using the builtin Mail app because I prefer it and use it on all of my devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad, & Apple Watch). Does anyone use the Gmail app for iOS just for the instant notifications then simply open the Mail app and work from there? Will this cause any issues having my Gmail accounts setup in both the Mail and Gmail app?

I don't use the Gmail app, but I use inbox. iOS mail is set to never check for mail and I use inbox exclusively. Have no issues with both installed.

I use the Gmail app exactly as you are thinking about. I prefer the built-in Mail app, but like the Push notifications of the Gmail app. I've been using the two together for about a year (as a guess), and there has never been a conflict.

You can get push email from Google using the stock Mail app (with the Gmail app installed), but you have to be jailbroken.
