I noticed that Gmail seems to now have push capabilities with the Touch. It seems that I get the chirp in about 3 minutes from the server receiving the mail, rather than it waiting for the 15 minute refresh cycle. They must have included support for IMAP idle.

If only it would push the calendar then I would be all set, it's really annoying having to sync gcal with outlook and then connect the ipod.

I've been using something called NemusSync on 1.1.4 JB. One of the reasons I'm hesitant to upgrade is because I don't want to lose Nemus. It's not push, but with one touch it syncs your iPod touch cal with google cal, both ways. In other words, events you enter on your iPod get uploaded as well as events from gcal downloading. If you have multiple calendars in gcal, you can indicate which calendar to upload your iPod cal events to.

Then when you sync your iPod to your computer, it updates your computer cal with all the gcal events on your iPod. It's awesome, it's my main reason for wanting to stay jailbroken.

Hope we have a native app like this for 2.0 software.

Me too ... but help!

Gmail push working for me too ... but how to do you turn that 'chirp' noise off? In the middle of the night, it's very very annoying!

well that turns off *all* sounds -- I find the keyboard click rather handy. I just don't want the email chirp that I now get.

Can the email chirp be turned off without turning off all other noises?

Is there not a "New E-mail" On/Off in Sounds on a touch?

Those of you getting push from G-mail, did you set it up under G-mail or other?

As the instructions Google has is to use other and not to use the default Gmail... but I did the other and I am not getting the push.

It doesn't matter, they both use IMAP.

I have an exchange account and a gmail account, but while it says push on, there is an advanced button at the bottom of the fetch mail setting and when i click it, there is no push mail enable button. only fetch or manual.

i've tried setting it up as other and with the gmail button. either others aren't paying full attention to what's really going on with the adv settings or i'm missing something.....
