With the new unified inbox I decided to change the way I get my email. I had 3 gmail accounts forwarded to MobileMe, now I was going to setup separate boxes for each account. On my Mac, iPhone, and iPad. So I went into each gmail account, turned forwarding off, and POP(for new messages) and imap both on.

The problem is the several thousand messages in each account. The are all trying to download each device. What is the best way to onl get new messages?

you can use the google app. Its usign the web browser to read email

I'll check that out, but I think I would rather use the mail app. Plus I need to figure out how to not download all he messages on my Mac also. Nhanks

Set them up as exchange accounts on the iphone. there is an option to change the number of days to sync. Set it to 1 and it will only sync the emails from the previous day.

you have several options, the first is what I suggest:

if you want push email on the email acounts set them up using these instructions: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252 you can then turn off pop and imap in gmail as this way doesn't need that, and it is best to have them off if you dont need them.

if you don't want/need push email then (if you are on 4.0 or above) follow: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702 you have to have imap on but you can turn off pop

or if you are not on 4.0 or above follow these instructions: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=184972 again imap must be on but you can turn off pop

or if you don't want it added to the mail app then just use gmail.com in safari and set a bookmark
