upgrading wife's phone to 4.0 and had a few questions.

Before i had gmail setup as a MS Exchange server and pushed worked great.
Do i still have to use Exchange or with the "Gmail" icon setup allow push?

i asked this same question on this forum and also on the gmail help forums and no one has replied to either. can anyone confirm this about push gmail?

I don't know the answer for sure, either.

OTOH, it may not be a big deal anymore because iOS 4 allows multiple Exchange accounts. I currently have two - one for work, the other for Google Sync. :)

the biggest reason i would like it is the ability to archive. on the other hand, i also would like the ability to delete from my phone. currently, the regular non exchange setup only allows one or the other (without going in all the time and changing the setting) so i guess i'll stick with exchange for the push and give up archiving ability.

I posted in another thread with no resolution-

on iOS3.xx I had gmail set up as an exchange through m.google to egt push. Since going to iOS4x, push is sporadic; but worse deleting my e-mails is not working. If I delete an e-mail, it disappears but never goes to the trash (error cannot move to trash bin) and the badge for new mail remains. So, currently, I have a badge of 4 new e-mails with no new e-mails in my inbox.

I'd go with the "Gmail" icon (IMAP - no push) for the moment. Since Monday's release of iOS4 Google's exchange servers have been hammered with everyone setting up multiple accounts on their devices because "they can".

Even as recently as this AM I can't get any reliability out of the exchange method, but IMAP just quietly goes about it's job.

Watch the apple and google forums for any sign of this exchange outage getting healed.

This applies to both gmail.com and Google Apps accounts - just plain old swamped across the board via exchange.
