Gmail setup question

If I set up my OSX "Mail" account with my gmail details, will it suck everything out of my account and put it onto my computer (i.e. will my webmail become empty?)...?

If not, will both the mail client and web client reflect changes between eachother?

If you set it up using IMAP then both mail.app and the gmail website will show exactly the same thing.
