I know how to set it all up so my gmail e-mails come through the Mail on my Mac, however, for some reason all my sent mail also fills up my inbox in 'Mail'. So when i set it up, and finished, and it transfered all my mail from gmail to the 'Mail' account thingy, every e-mail i've sent in the past god knows how long showed up in my inbox. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop it?

i had the exact same issue as you and i was quite confused

when you click on mail > preferences > general

there are 3 check boxes on the bottom "when searching mailboxes include results from: junk mail, trash, encrypted"

just uncheck the ones you dont want. i dont think there is anyway to avoid the initial flood of all emails when you first load your gmail into mail. however, i have not received anymore like that since the initial flood. so once you delete all those old ones (annoying hah) youre in the clear

i think you somehow got the download all email option turned on... i know there's a way of turning it off... perhaps something in your mail preference menu...

otherwise i dont know

Here is the solution

I had the same issue with mail and gmail.

Here is what I did, I noticed that all the emails that I sent from gmail.com had my full name as sender. So I created a "rule" (that I named "mail sent from gmail.com") that moved all my incoming mail that had my full name as sender to the sent folder.

Mail then correctly sorted out all the sent email that was in my inbox.

hope this works for you.

Different Gmail related problem

I also just recently signed up with Gmail and set up the Mail. Seems to be working fine - with the exception of photos attached to received emails. I'm not really happy with the size of the photos since they are only about 2" on a side and are sized down from the originals. That's when they open. More times than not, the photos won't open and you end up with a bunch of photo icons. You can go to the link that allows you to view all the photos at their original size, but again, the photos sometimes won't open there either. This seems to happen more frequently when viewing Gmail through a browser. I've been used to the photos automatically opening at their original size when using hotmail and wondered if other people have had similar problems with Gmail. Is there anything that can be done to fix these problems? Thanks!
