My question is that if I have gmail & yahoo mail set up on my phone, both with IMAP, isnt the mail supposed to be directly pushed to my phone and I will just get a notification when they come?

If so, then why do i always have to physically go into my mail application then it will check for updates? Isnt IMAP supposed to do that for me automatically?

Your best bet is to have your phone check email at a set interval (say every 30 minutes or every hour etc.)

    got it.

But doesnt that drain the battery? (by having it check every 15 minutes)

also, how do you get direct push to your phone? (is that possible?)

Having your phone check for email that often will affect the battery some. I know that Google doesn't support push mail. I'm not sure about Yahoo since i don't use it.

if you have a yahoo acct setup it will push. sometimes there is a bit of a delay but lately it's been fairly instant for me. sometimes restarting the mail app helps. push of some sort is there though with yahoo and no need to set your interval in settings.
