One thing to consider on the SS - how annoyed will you be by scratches? Personally, I’m very annoyed by them. I buff them out with a metal polishing cloth every 6 months or so, but this was never an issue when I had aluminium. Presumably the scratches were still there, but the brushed finish disguised them. I’ll probably go back to aluminium for the S8.

Sorry - this is a duplicate post. It told me the post was gone, so I reposted then it appeared. Weird.

Well, I THINK the scratches (especially if I can buff them out) will annoy me less than not wearing my leather bands because the stainless doesn’t match my Starlight watch. I could deal with the stainless lugs against my silver, but I don’t like them against the starlight.

I’m honestly not sure what I’ll do. My watch has been bothering me the last few days. IDK if it’s from the cellular or what, but I’m getting some burning going up a nerve in my arm. I had this issue the last time I tried SS and I thought it was due to the way the thicker watch pressed into my arm, and hit that nerve, but now I’m wondering if it’s the cellular, because I don’t even wear my watch tight or anything. I’m super sensitive to stuff like that (like the Bluetooth/AirPods).

I did order the SS today just to get it moving. I figure I can cancel in the next few days if I change my mind, or get it and try it out and return it if I am not in love with it (although Apple might ban me from buying from them ever again because I have returned several watch bands in the last couple weeks, and I have to return my HomePod mini thanks to my horrid internet that won’t even stream MUSIC without issue).

Yeah that's a good point about the stainless lugs against the starlight chassis of the watch. It seems very odd to me that their 'neutral' aluminium colour this year causes obvious colour clashes with pre-existing bands. Hope you enjoy the SS, it'll look great.

Well, in all fairness I didn’t HAVE to buy the starlight, but I’m a sucker. ?

I had the series 6 aluminum, and upgraded to Hermes SS series 7 this year. The weight difference is noticeable, so I no longer sleep track. But the upside is the display is bigger on the 7 and is easier on my eyes. So no need for me to go the bigger size watch.

If you have small wrists, stick with the smaller watch, otherwise the weight and the proportions will be off.

I choose the 41 SS for you, the aesthetics is beautiful and I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. :)

I was warned coming from a series 0 that the scratches on the s6 screen would bug. And they certainly do.

So, the scratches are bad on aluminum. (A-loo-mini-umm, lol ?) every little casual bump on metal (even smooth metal) will scratch the screen)

I don’t like the idea of spending an extra $300 for stainless steel Watch, but that sapphire is really speaking to me.

I guess in another five years it’ll be time to drop $700 on a SS watch ? but of course by that time, it’ll be $1000 to get sapphire, surely. ?

I had the SS 44mm S6 last year and downgraded to an aluminium 44mm SE (couldn't justify the S7 or S6 again) mainly for the weight, just felt off and didn't get used to the top heavy feeling.

I say go for the 45mm aluminium.

I love my series 7. I honestly have started enjoying Apple watch even more in the last year than in past years. However, I have wanted to either go to stainless or go bigger for a while, and, even though I recently got my 7, I’m toying with the idea. My oldest daughter bought my 6 cellular, but I was thinking of us selling that and letting her have my 7 then ordering either a stainless or a 45mm.

So, if you had to choose between going with stainless in the 41, or going with a 45 (can’t do a 45 stainless - just more weight than I want on my arm), which would you choose, and why?

It’s a strange dilemma I would say. The 45mm is too big for me and the stainless costs more than I would be willing to pay for a temporary smartwatch. I can’t really advise as neither appeal to me. Why wouldn’t you consider both in the same size as part of the decision??

Stainless 41mm is a very nice size. My wife went from 42mm stainless to 40mm stainless to 41mm stainless, and she says the 41 is almost as big as the 42 was, while being better on the wrist. The extra screen in the series 7 makes it an easier call. As far as stainless vs Aluminum, having owned multiple versions I now pick stainless every time. The extra scratch resistance is key.

I think she currently has the 41 aluminum, and is thinking of switching to a 41 stainless or a 45 aluminum. She's ruled out the 45 stainless because she thinks it will be too heavy. But basically she did consider all 4 options, and has narrowed it down to the 2 she's currently asking about.

The way I see it is that 41 stainless would be the safe choice, because she already has that size and knows it fits her wrist. The 45 is a question mark, because her wrist size is right at the border of where the 45 may be too big. In a way, I consider you and I lucky, because our wrists are definitively too small for the 45, we don't have this dilemma over picking which size to wear. ;)

My wrist is too small to wear the larger watch. When I upgraded my series 5 aluminum to a series 6 SS last year I tried on the 44mm and the smallest size braided loop (4) was huge, it just swung freely around my wrist. I wear a size 3 braided loop for my 40mm so if you wear a size 4, the 45mm will likely also be too big for you.
Go for the stainless! It is gorgeous and looks amazing with almost any band.

I ordered the stainless over the weekend. It gave a December 27th ship date, which is the day before my birthday, so I was thinking, “Happy Birthday to me!” Then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought maybe I should just cancel it, keep my starlight til next year in case they do something really great with the watch, then go for the stainless.

Had an email yesterday that the watch shipped, and will be here tomorrow. 😝

Here’s hoping I can handle the weight because I know I’m gonna love everything else about it. I’ve worn white gold/silver for as long as I can remember.

You’re going to love it. When I got mine, I couldn’t contain the joy. Everything about the ss is better. The clicks, the haptic sounds, the screen, …etc. I finally got why ppl pay premium for the ss.

Happy birthday! ?

Looking forward to hearing how that goes. Although I've never seriously considered the stainless for myself, I've always been curious about the weight difference. I suspect the bands you use might also make a difference. For instance, the sports bands are so heavy, I think they might negate the weight difference between aluminum and stainless, whereas the solo loops are so light, they could really make you feel the difference. At least that's my theory. Please let me know if I'm right or not. ;)

I’m sure I will - just hope the weight is doable for me, and that I can make myself skip an upgrade. ;-p

I am a tad concerned that the sport loops might not work as well on me with the weight of the watch - that the watch itself may slide more on my wrist because I didn’t buy my sport loops to fit tightly. I think the braided will be fine.

You’ll notice it’s heavier the first time you wear it, but then after having it on for a day it will feel totally normal and you will never even realize the difference again.

I've tried the Aluminum before and returned it for the SS and haven't looked back since. I definitely prefer a more substantial feeling on my wrist even if I'm going to the gym 6 days a week.

I just upgraded from my S5 SBSS to S7 SS and the additional weight was pretty noticeable, but I got used to it after a day or two. My gf dropped my S5 before on concrete and it was unscathed. I personally would always choose SS over Titanium just because of the weight and shine.

The resale value drops much more for SS vs Aluminum but I was able to sell my S5 SBSS in mint condition for $300, which isn't too bad, but like others have said, if you plan on upgrading every year, SS might not be the way to go.
It is like night and day between Aluminum and SS. My original 2015 AW was a Sport, bumped it up to black SS few months later. Slow and obsolete watch, but still wear it.

My AW4 again was aluminum, and again turned that in 10 days later..but had to drive 60 miles to Freehold, NJ to get the silver SS (only place that had it in stock back then). I STILL have and wear this 99% of the time...Speed of it is still pretty good, but battery is..meh, so-so right now. I just prefer the stainless.

But you're spot on. Resale value of Stainless steels drops to the point where it's almost pointless to trade it in.

Me personally, I've been using Cape Cod Polishing cloth for my silver Stainless Steel Series 4. (Amazon had this, but I did find mine at an Ace Hardware store) Yes, these do get little micro scratches, but this polishing cloth really does a darn good job removing most of them. I still think it looks darn good today, and I've bumped this watch a few times.

I tried the SS model for one week and then returned. I ended up with SBTi graphite milanese band for the extra $100 since it comes with a 2 year warranty and two bands. Plus it comes with DLC coating. A bought the separate marigold band and really like the look. So far so good. This is my first Watch and went straight for the 2nd best. Can't justify paying for a Hermes unless you have deeper pockets for the look. Otherwise, it's basically the same functionality.

I tend to keep my watches for two years, I've always gone silver stainless steel as I like the sapphire crystal and the ability to polish out scratches in the stainless. I think if were upgrading every year I would go with the aluminum.

Well, my SS watch arrived. Honestly, I’m on the fence. The weight isn’t as bad as I expected, but honestly, I’m just not sure if I like it $300 more than my starlight aluminum. It definitely has a dressier look, and is certainly stunning, but I am so casual most of the time, and not sure if I need to have a watch that’s that much more flashy.

I just honestly hate to return one more thing to Apple. I had to return all my solo bands except one because of fit, and I have a braided loop sitting here that needs to go back as well. I don’t like buying/returning.

Okay so update. I decided to wear it a while and really give it a fair shot. I set it up, and I really do like it a lot. It really looks awesome.

Here’s the issue, and it’s so weird I think I just must be a total oddball - it sends shooting pains up my arm. This is what happened when I tried the SS back with series 2, but I thought it might just be the cellular. I don’t have cellular set up on this watch yet.

This happens to me sometimes at the end of the day with my aluminum, but I’ve only had this on a little while - maybe an hour and a half, and it is constant. I thought maybe it was just because my braided solo loop is snug, so I put it with the regular solo loop, which is looser - didn’t really help.

IDK what to think or do. Of course because I decided I really like it and want to keep it, this is happening.

Has anyone had anything like this happen and then it resolved as you wore it?
