I love how silent I ca work on the iPad (wife is sleeping 2' away). But going back home is really loud.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Not really much you can do about that. I imagine it seems loud when you're in a quiet room and hear that click. I too noticed it when working on mine next to my sleeping wife. She never woke up from it :)

Actually, once she is asleep it is ok...it is when she is trying to get to sleep.

    Thanks for the reply.

Funny you ask, I was just about to post that question myself. Got the 3G model this weekend and love the thing. My only complaint is the loud click when pressing the Home button. And soon we'll be double-click for multi-tasking...

There is (or will be) a way through jailbreaking. The program SBSettings has various toggles (Bluetooth, wifi, etc.) you can turn on/off without digging through menus. They also have a home button equivilant for people with broken/reassigned home buttons. My iPhone mute slider is broken, and I can mute/unmute with a onscreen button.

I have not tried myself, but I have heard SBSettings had bugs that need to be worked out on the ipad. But once that is fixed, you could have an onscreen home button equivilant.

Jailbreak, install activator, set some motion for the springboard.

Well, at least for late night, i am thinking something like a piece of felt...but what i have tried so far didn't muffle it very well.

I also have been trying to come up with a solution for the overly bright screen (for late night in the bed usage).

I cut open a soft antistatic bag and laid it flat, The problem with this solution is that it was so soft, it slid right off. But, it worked...in both dimming and allowing input...except it was a little noiser.

Well, I am talking about lying in bed and my wife is asleep next to me...less than 2' away. One of the reasons I justified the ipad was the feasability of using in bed. She is always ready to go to bed while I am still awake...and even my quietest laptop made noise and was awkward to use.

But the iTouch was almost perfect...you know...except for a 6x smaller screen. Not to bright...the button wasn't too noisey (although I would life it away from me and to my side to press it). The iPad has been ultra cool to take to bed...but it is VERY bright...lighting up the entire room even on the dimmest setting...unless I go to iBooks. And except for the home button, I can fiddle with the ipad perfectly quietly until I am good and ready to fall asleep.

Ive managed to do this a few times. Just open an app and wait for it to crash.
