Ive searched and found similar posts but I thought Id start a new one. I Have been using the mac mail application with my godaddy free email account for probably 4 years now never having any real problems. all of a sudden my out going mail will not work and the application says my password is invalid and repeatedly asks for me to enter my password but does not accept it. Now i did not make any changes so this should not have happened?

Steps taken to try to fix issue:

1. Try both outgoing mail on phone and web-based email. Both work which points finger at the application. unsuccessful

2. Changed password and reset keychain. unsuccessful

3. Tried creating a different account on another mac. unsuccessful

4. Genius bar. They couldnt figure it out and pointed finger at GoDaddy

5. Called GoDaddy support they pointed finger at mac.

I am positive that the pass and user info are correct. Does anyone know how to resolve this? It is very frustrating and I really like the mail app until now. Please help thanks in advance!

I have used the GoDaddy/Mail combo myself and had numerous issues, and to be truthful I never spent the time/energy to figure out what was causing it. I feel your pain though. For a while I was frequently getting those weird password prompts, then somehow the problem just went away. I don't recall whether it was an update on my side or something on GoDaddy's side that fixed it. I also have problems frequently with my outgoing mail, and the only thing that seems to work is quitting Mail, relaunching, and re-sending. Kind of a pain.

One thing you might want to double check is that you are using the correct ports. GoDaddy uses non-standard ports IIRC, and they don't support secure/encrypted email either (again, AFAIK) so make sure you're not trying to do that. I believe the correct ports for GoDaddy are 80 for outgoing and 110 for incoming.

Thanks for the reply. Ive tried those ports, also tried 3535 that godaddy recommended themselves. I am stuck no amount or quitting, relaunching or restarting has seemed to help at all. I can receive fine just want to send.

Possible Solution...

I have a handful of godaddy emails that I use, and I've had issues on, and off. I'm confident that this will solve your issue...

I'm going to outline this as it would be arranged in the Mail.app preferences for OS X 10.5 as I don't remember the subtle differences in the preferences of 10.4, but here you go...

MailPreferences>Accounts>YourGodaddyAccount>OutgoingMailServer(SMTP)>EditServerList>Advanced>choose Custom Ports, and type in port 465, and check use SSL. Close, and save. Do a quick quit/relaunch just as an extra measure...

This should do it.
