Last time I checked, SCUMMVM was for LucasArts games.
Then again, I haven't checked SCUMMVM in a few years.
GOG uses DOSbox.
Sim City 3000 and I'll carry their babies.
Just another tip - the moment you sign up with them you already get six games for free..!
I still have an ancient Bondi Blue iMac with an OS 8.6 boot along side its OS X one. With RealPC installed to use abandonware like Panzer General and original copies of some Mac versions it does the job of a games time machine just fine. Running stuff like that on a Mac Pro usually makes it too fast to be playable. Hope GOG have a good throttle function.
Guys, this is GREAT news. I am a big fan of their service– I own probably a dozen game packages (some include multiple games) on GOG.com. Obviously the replay-ability of a given game is highly dependant on the genre and technology at the time. But some games hold up really well. For example, I think many of the text adventures and point-and-click adventures hold up quite well.
Give them a try.
Haha, I'm the same way. Its a good excuse to keep some of my old iBooks and other old hardware around. I've got a blueberry clamshell thats basically a dedicated Sim City 2000 machine. That's why I always keep a G3 iBook or G3 PowerBook handy. They can usually run most of the classic Mac OS games without issue. (and it's not as bulky as keeping a G3 iMac around!) I even have an older PowerBook for when Mac OS 8 or 9 is just "too new!".
I bought a boxed copy of Sim City 2000 for Mac at a thrift store in the summer, going to have to give that a play this weekend! I think I also have the Sim City 3000 CD for Windows around here somewhere...fun memories!
Anyone know the cheat code for SimCity 2000 that gives you all the Arcos & $$$?
Oddly enough, my girlfriend was looking to play Theme Hospital yesterday, I wondered if GOG did any Mac games so logged in and they had it! Then I found out that it was cheap because they had just launched it!
Anyway, she played Theme Hospital for like 8 hours yesterday and it ran fine!
I have been buying from GOG for years. Keep in mind what you but is DRM free and you don't need a client connected to the web like Steam. GOG uses dosbox and scummvm. Both can be obtained free. If you own the CDs/floppies you can do this yourself. However GOG makes it very easy for only pennies. Plus they give you tons of extras like manuals, backgrounds, mp3s, etc. they have sales every week and have been known to offer free games from time to time. They are also part of the family that made The Withcher.

The technical part of running on the mac OS is beyond me. Does the download of a GOG game just "run" after the installation or are other software components required?
There are remakes available: http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/kq1/download/download.html
