I've used Synergy since around 2008 to use one keyboard/mouse to control multiple systems, typically Windows, Mac and/or Linux and it's worked well. My current desktop is 2 Mac desktops and they are running Ventura so I tried running Universal Control. It generally worked but it requires WiFi to be turned on which I don't really like to do as both computers are hooked up with Ethernet. I sometimes run into lag as well - particularly on the cursor. Also, sometimes the screens freeze when I'm doing a cut and paste and this is very annoying.

I download Synergy on both systems and got it up and running in a few minutes.

Ideally I'd only run 1 desktop but there's a bug in one of the programs that I'm using so I'm running 2 Macs on the desktop until the bug is fixed.

universal control is great here (altho earlier in the beta cycle, i had problems connecting my macs). i regularly move files between both computers, and it's great that i can copy a file directly from my macbook to an external drive on the mini... something one couldn't do with airdrop.

no lag here; what version of ventura are you running? just curious...

I think that the latest version of Synergy allows file transfer.

I'm running Ventura 13.4 on all of my Apple Silicon Macs.

I have my Studio set up as the home NAS so I can just copy files from one system to another with drag and drop.

I got an email today saying the "Synergy 3 is finally here!" Perhaps that has some nifty things that give it a clear edge.

I had a look at Synergy 3 and it doesn't have file transfer (at least I didn't see it). Synergy 2 required an internet connection which many have problems with. I am on Synergy 0.9 which doesn't have the requirement (neither does version 1). I've used Synergy for a day and it does feel more comfortable than Universal Control.

There is one other thing that I prefer with Synergy over Universal Control.

When you move your mouse to another system, Synergy gives the system that you switched to the keyboard focus. So if you start typing, it goes to the last application that you used on the other system. With Universal Control, the keyboard goes to the system that you last clicked on. So you have to click on the program where you want the keyboard to go to with Universal Control. I'm not really sure why they did it that way but I guess UC users will get used to it.
