Sort of. As you get older your back and shoulders get bad. And you cannot carry a 5+ pound laptop + power supply around all day like you could when you were younger.

Dude, hit the gym.

Deadlifts, squats, pullups, bench press, shoulder press, rows should take care of your back and shoulders.

I wish the Air was more powerful !!!!! Perfect r form factor

Agreed. But if the Air was more powerful, could it use the same form factor? A more powerful CPU means more power consumption, with need a bigger battery. Also, more excess heat to dissipate which means a fan system. Start adding these things on and pretty soon you have a MacBook Pro.

Spinal issues, multiple shoulder dislocations, and knee injuries (due to motorcross, long distance running, etc.) means I have to be very careful weight lifting. No military presses or anything that compresses spine. Bench, curls, core, planking, etc. are about it. Still run 3-4 miles a day because of running addiction even though back shows degeneration on MRI. Never lift anything heavy especially in a shoulder bag that pulls one way and not the other.

yes, I have same issues, good shape but disk issues NO amount of weight training, running will get rid of that! LOL....it's the strain of a large laptop, carrying it everywhere.. a pain!!!

I haven’t bought my new 2019 MacBook Pro yet and won’t until the end of the month... may consider the 16 inch if affordable

I’m eyeing a maxed out 15 inch 32 gig Vega 20 model in the refurb store if I decide to spend that much

I’m going 15 inch because I’m getting my masters in Environmental Science and I’m doing all my classes online

I need the screen real estate because I prefer to have word on one side of the screen and textbook/safari on the other

I have been debating a maxed out 2TB 13 inch Pro and just getting a used iPad Air2 for textbooks

You could save a lot of money by getting the 13 + a 27 or 32 inch 4K external monitor.

I went from a 15 to a 13. I went in for the 15 and impulsively bought a 13 because I liked the look of it better. I had been weighing both up to the point I walked into the Apple store.

While I like the 15 inch screen size, I don't need a dGPU and I was concerned that the extra heat generated by the dGPU would be harder on the rest of the components. I also thought about Apple's history of defective graphics cards and the idea that it's just one more component to fail.

So, is the heat a legitimate concern? If not, I'm inclined to move back to the 15 when my current machine reaches end of life.

The dGPU does create heat, but I don't think it is excessive. Most comments about failing GPU cards go back to the Raedongate days when Apple used NVidia GPUs. Apple and Nvidia have not been on speaking terms since then. GPUs for the last 4 years or so has been from AMD.

But, I don't really follow this, so maybe someone else can add the latest on AMD GPUs and heating.

Going from 13" to 15" and a little nervous TBH.

The 13" is such a nice size...

But I'm going to be video editing and programming more and probably using my MBP as my main computer so I'm giving 15" a shot. They're so light now and the footprint really isn't that bad so I don't think it's going to be that hard to adjust.

The quad core on the 13" is plenty capable for most, but it doesn't have a dGPU sadly.

I'm going for the 15" due to the screen estate and dGPU/better CPU.. Still rocking the 2017 13" TB and I'm running out of memory (memory pressure at 90%) with a Windows and a Ubuntu VM...

Plus connected to dual 4k displays drives the 13" crazy

I’ve owned two 15 inch MacBook Pros over the last 10+ years and I’m thinking of switching to the 13” model for my next upgrade, as I’d welcome the extra portability.

My only area of indecision is over the reduced screen size. Just wondering how any of you that have done this have found it. I find other people’s opinions on things like this really helpful

Thanks all.
I've always had a 13"MBA, Sony Vaio and love it. When I decided to buy a new laptop, I bought a 15" MBP, thought it was too big, so I exchanged for a 13" MBP. After a few days, I realize how much more comfortable the 15" was when I had it for a week. I returned the 13" MBP. Because of the keyboard Issues, I've decided to wait to repurchase a new 15" MBP. I'm still using my 13"MBA in the meantime.

The one thing that psyched me is on the 13" MBP, the bezel was very thin so it made the the overall laptop even smaller even though it was the same screen size as my 13" MBA. It is this only reason why I'm going 15". I'm hoping the rumors are our of a 14" MBP coming in 2020. This would be perfect.

Made the switch last year. The 15 was great, and very occasionally I miss the larger screen, but 95% of the time the 13 is better for me. Easier to deal with all around.

yeah I agree, have had both, prefer form factor of the 13" MBA or MBP, actually prefer MBA (form not function lol)... but like anything you get used to it like I did my 13 MBP, almost always had a 15", now couldn't imagine lugging it around....

Problem is... I live in various hotel rooms 3-4 days a week

Radeon’s are ATI cards not Nvidia. Apple stopped dealing with Nvidia because Apple wanted total control over the drivers while Nvidia didn’t want to give that to apple. They still wanted partial control.

Had a 2013 15", then 12" MB, then tried a couple of 15" 2018 machines but couldn't get on with all the heat generated by the 560 gfx chip. Also whilst screen real estate is better, it does take up more space especially when travelling. I take it to work and have it open to one side and the 15" was too intrusive, it would cover part of my work monitor and generally take up too much space.
Now I've got a 2019 13", it is light and small. No small furnace of a gfx chip inside. The quad core is plenty fast enough for me and I am used to the screen real estate. Just go full screen when necessary, four finger swipe make it trivially easy to switch between applications anyway. At home I hook it up to a TB3 dock and use a 4K screen anyway. Awesome machine.
Also how on earth do they make the speakers on the 4 port 13" MBP sound *that* good?!?!?!

I went from a 13” MBA (that I loved) to a 15” MBP for the larger screen. But I missed the portability and went back to a 13” MBP.

Thru this process I realized I wasn’t using Spaces effectively. So I boned up on Spaces and also how to navigate the browser (tabs, etc) via only the keyboard. Now, I have my IDE, browser, a terminal window, etc in full screen mode on dedicated spaces and it’s much more efficient and enjoyable than having multiple Windows cluttering up one screen/space. I don’t miss the 15” screen at all.

I usually work on QHD or 4K screens. Working on the very low resolutions on the internal display makes me claustrophobic.

IMO the only downside fo the 15" is the stupid pricing (that it doesn't have i5/8GB configurations so you effectively start off at near maxed out 13" pricing

Sadly, the day Apple caters to people that "just want a larger screen" and offer a lower specced 15" MBP will also be the day of "8gb is not enough for Pro" troll posts.

A larger MBP would nicely cover that gap in the MB line-up though.

I've had NTB 13 and 15 and TB 15 MBPs. I'd much prefer the current 13" to any of them -- as a dev, I have no need for a dGPU just a few cores and plenty of ram :D

I think the 13" MBP is a sort of laptop "sweet spot," but I edit documents side by side and use Adobe CC apps with lots of layers open. When I tried to make the switch to a 13" QC MBP from my 15" a summer ago, I lasted all of two weeks. Wound up returning the 13" and ordering another 15".

To those who say "bulk up so you can carry the extra pound," my guess is that you've never been on several long-haul international flights back-to-back carrying a 15" MBP. The extra weight does make a substantial difference over time.

I've done that with the old 17s and 15s. They weight 8 pounds.

Weak era.

oh I have for sure - not fun! lol then most airlines now unless you are in first the 15" is about too large for the table... was frustration for me!

Got 15 inch 2018 from 13 inch 2013. Man, I really miss 13 inch! I’m considering selling my 15 inch and get a 13 inch again when new models are out!

I'll gladly strain that extra little bit to have more screen real estate once I get settled and need to do some work.

The size and weight of the 13" is undeniably better though if you can tolerate the smaller size when you start using it.
