I'm having a serious itch to try out a new M1 MBA to see if the hype is really all that. I've been using my trusty mid 2015 15" MBP since day one and it's been flawless. My only complaint has always been the same, this laptop is pretty hefty at times. But I chose it over a MBA back then because I didn't want to be held down with the MBA's limited CPU power and the lack of retina display. That was then and this is now. Of course I know I'll be downsizing in the screen size but I think I'll be okay with that. But what turns me on about the M1 MBA is all the CPU power and battery life reviews on YouTube reviews are all very impressive.

What do you guys and gals think? Do you think I'd be making a big mistake going from a five year old MBP to an M1 MBA?

We need to know what you are doing with your computer. If its Mac software yeah its faster. If you are on chrome and ms office I am skeptical.

I mainly just browse the web with occasional photo and video editing. But the great battery life and the lightweight aspect is a big plus for me.

I'm thinking of the MBP M1 and I use 2014 and 2015 MBP 15s. I just wish that they had a model with more ports and more RAM.

My new 10700 desktop has GB5 1250/8200 and there's a noticeable improvement from the 2015. My guess is that the M1 feels like my new desktop.

I just picked up my new MBA and I have it up and running. First impression? Wow! I'm amazed at how fast this little laptop really is. I can already see a huge difference between it and my laptop mentioned above. I knew there was going to be a big difference between the two because of the technology differences in the CPUs but damn, this M1 chip is the real deal. My other main concern was going from a 15" to a 13" screen. I think I'll be okay. If not, I think I will use an external monitor that I already have as my main display.

But so far, I'm really diggin' this new MBA.

Congrats! From your short experience in going from 15 to 13...do you feel the switch is more of an eyesight issue (i.e. smaller screen elements/text, etc) or more of a screen real estate issue? Thanks

Well, sounds like it is time to change your signature :D 👍

Definitely screen real estate but I'm already getting use to the smaller size which is okay. I just ordered a USB C to HDMI dongle so I can use my 32" TV as a monitor if I need to. It's nice to have options.
