I'm looking at getting a 2011 Mac Mini Server.

I've got a 2010 Macbook Pro with SL currently.

Can I use the Time Machine backup from the MBP to set up the Mini Server?
I want to transfer over all the stuff from the MBP to the Mini, and then sell the MBP.

Will there be any issue's with this? Will the Mini allow a Non-Server Time Machine backup to be used?

    Thanks

There's nothing preventing the server-branded mini from running a non-server version of the same OS. However, as is often the case with Apple, you may not be able to run Snow Leopard on a machine that was released after Lion came out.

Is there a reason why you want to run server? It sounds like you will be using the mini as a desktop.
Anyway I would not use the time machine backup but instead use migration assistant on the server.

I'm happy to run Lion Server on the Mini.
Just want to make sure I won't have major issues using a Time Machine backup from a Non Server OS that is SL.
