With the 16 Pro Max I’m thinking I might try just using the phone without a case (possibly only using one in certain situations). I will still be using a glass screen protector.

Anyone else thinking of doing the same?

My only reservation is that I trade in my phone each year to Apple and i have this worry that it could end up affecting the trade in value.

Went caseless/naked (and no screen protector... haven't used one of those in forever) with my iPhone 15 Pro Max for an entire year and only had one big drop, face down 3-4 feet onto a sidewalk and it only left a microscopic mark on the very bottom of the glass(no crack, teeny tiny scuff).

I'm careful and also use a round magnet pop-socket off and on. I'm on the Apple IUP so I will 99% get the new 16 Pro Max and go caseless again.

I've been going without a case for years now and with only a screen protector... I'm on the IUP. I decided to try the privacy screen protector (ESR) for the 16 PM this year. It's so nice not to have to buy those multiple 'just in case I want to switch' cases each year for the iPhone.

Unless you are prone to dropping the phone, I don't see how you going without a case and just a screen protector will affect your trade in value. It would have to be a pretty major drop with visible damage to affect the trade-in value

Was thinking about doing the same. I currently have a 14PM and hate the polished edges as they show every smudge and fingerprint. Have used a case solely because of that. With the edges not being polished to an almost mirror finish I’m going to run without a case most of the time. There’s certain situations when I’ll likely throw one on but planning on not using one most of the time.

You’re careful but you dropped it on a pavement and were very lucky it didn’t smash? It’s easily down, and your incident could have gone either way. I saw a lad sitting on a curb in London last year drop his iPhone from about 300mm onto the road and his entire back glass was smashed. Its luck of the draw and I have no idea what the benefit is of not using a simple case in all honesty?

Fair… ish. That is one of the many reasons to purchase AppleCare+

The benefit is 2-fold. That last comfortable-in-the-hand iPhone was the 11 Pro/Max. With a case or “naked.”

The 15 Pro/Max chamfered edges and decreased weight from the 14PM is really only noticed when not using a case. It is a much better experience without a case.

Lastly… aesthetics. Raw Ti matches my AW7 Edition titanium and AW Ultra2 very well. Case ruins it…

I don't ever think about going caseless. I've already ordered the case and screen protector for my 16 Pro, they will be here before the phone, and they'll go on the phone as soon as it comes out of the box.

I have the 15 Pro and it’s been caseless for the most part (only pop a case on when I’m at the beach). But otherwise the phone is still in great condition. I have AC+ too, so that helps (otherwise I’d probably have a case on it full-time).

That setup looks really great together.

I’ve never had the desire to use mine without a case as I tend to drop it more regularly than I care to admit and I prefer the grip a case gives. I also prefer that a case hides a lot of the aesthetics of the phone and it’s less appealing to being snatched. They are mass produced products though so I still don’t really get the whole ‘enjoying the look’ thing. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

That’s been my yearly “ritual” but then the only times I get to really appreciate the aesthetics of the phone itself is when I first take it out of the box and then when I take my case off to trade it in.

I always have Apple Care+ anyway and with the pro max phones, removing any additional weight such as a case could only be a welcome change for me.

So the idea of going case less appeals to me.

I always have AC+ on my phones, but the nearest Apple Store to me is a 2 1/2 hour drive one way. So if I break a screen, it means I'm going to have to block out a whole day of my schedule, drive over 300 miles and burn a tank of gas to get it fixed. Obviously I'd do it if I had to, but if I can take preventative measures to not have it happen in the first place I'd rather do that.

To each their own, but I've never been into the "appreciating the aesthetics" of the iPhone. It's a rectangular piece of metal and glass, and truthfully, I actually think it looks better in a case. To me it's a tool, not a fine art piece, and my appreciation is for the things it can do. I realize that other people see it differently than me, it's just not my thing.

I refuse to purchase AppleCare+ because my money is better spent elsewhere so I always use a case and screen protector.

Been doing this for 12 years.... no issues. I think the only phone I ever skipped was 5S... And only had one incident where I dropped the iPhone 3G running across the street and cracked the screen.... Otherwise just a few scratches here and there but nothing major.

Went caseless with my 15 pm for about 6 months. Dropped it getting up from my desk at home one day…about 2.5’ high (phone was on my lap) on to vynl like tile. Shattered the back. Thank god for Apple care lol

I mean, I’m not referring to the aesthetics as if it’s a piece of art, but do you have a preference for a certain case color or would you be ok with any random color case?
Sometimes they come out with a decent phone color that I happen to like and if my phone is always on me, i guess I’d rather have certain colors.

Most peoples’ jewelry, interior decorations, clothing, automobiles, shoes are mass produced

Doesn’t prevent them from shopping based on aesthetics. Why would it be different for a consumer electronic?

For me, it’s less about the aesthetics and more about the materials. Apple demands a price premium based on the materials and build quality. Slapping a 5 cent Chinese-made piece of petroleum-based trash on it does not make it feel like one is holding something made out of the very materials one paid a premium for.

It’s like wrapping a piece of the earlier-described mass-produced jewelry in a nitrile sheath and then wearing it.

I've had my 14 Pro Max since launch and no case. It still looks like new.

I use the smaller phones naked to keep the weight down, but with the Pro Max I use a case, because I don‘t care how much it weighs—that is a two-handed phone.

If I'm trading my phone in or selling it every year to upgrade I wouldn't go caseless, any accident is $$$ down the drain but that's just me.
First year I tried it with my 15 PM. Always get the Apple leather case and could not find a great replacement, so went caseless and purchased monthly Apple Care. So far, my 15 PM is still in pristine condition. I did install a screen saver.

Going to the PM from the Pro’s, I thought I would be a big difference in carrying it, but without the case was not as bad. Will go caseless again this year in whatever Pro model I update too.

I go naked without AppleCare+. The only time I've broken a phone is on purpose, throwing it in frustration. I realized AC+ is a ripoff for me. The only time I've had it on my iPhone was when I was in the iUP.

I also rock MacBooks and iPads naked. I do recommend AC+ for iPad generally, however.

I only have AC+ on my AW Ultra and AirPods Pro 2 because Costco included it.
