It's taken me a while to build enough confidence but I'm finally contemplating taking the plunge...I'm thinking of going naked with my 14 Pro.

Like many, I love the look of the 14 Pro without a case - the smooth glass back, the polished frame etc. It's just such a shame to cover it up with a case which also adds size and weight (and an additional cost). If you go with a case, you have to go with a screen protector too.

In fact, one of the reasons I've put off upgrading from my 13 mini to a 14 Pro is thinking "what's the point if I'm going to cover it up?".

Now that AppleCare+ includes unlimited damage protection with a minimal excess fee, I feel like it puts consumers in a better place to 'go naked'.

Any advice? Is this a step too far?

For those that already bare all, how does your 13 Pro/14 Pro hold up with day-to-day use?

Especially interested to hear from those long-term exhibitionists, those that have rocked a 12/13 Pro for a year or more - how has your phone held up? Have you made many claims?

Does anyone go semi-naked, i.e. no case but a screen protector?

It would just feel so liberating to not have to care about babying a phone for every second of its life. Even in a case with my 13 mini I'm gently placing it down and a phone shouldn't be like that.

Thanks

Just get a nice metal bumper that has cutouts to minimize signal loss. It's the closes feel of the phone with some protection at least. Front and back is open of course.

Only you yourself will know the likelihood of damaging your phone, I use my 14 Pro without a case a fair bit, and I have AppleCare+ but have the Apple leather case for times when I want some extra peace of mind such as large crowds or if I’m wearing shorts with baggy pockets.

This sounds like a good compromise with AppleCare+ - have a case for certain situations (a night out, large crowds etc). Thank you for giving me this line of thought.

Smooth glass back. To me that means "slippery glass back" and inevitably ejecting from my hand. The reason I always keep it in a non-slippery case.

With AppleCare+, who decides what is covered damage vs normal wear & tear?
The Apple Store employee? The manager? The Genius Bar genius? The customer 🤣?

I went without a case for a majority of my 11 Pro's life. I found the coated stainless steel to be quite resilient, only really chipped if it came in contact with gravel. Ironically my phone cracked in an apple case after being hit out of my hand. I think a back skin and screen protector combo is kind of necessary to avoid micro scratches that can cause cracked glass earlier on.

I’ve gone without a case since the 12PM and have only used a screen protector. I find the squared form of the phone to be much easier to use. A case just makes it more bulky for me… I have small hands. I’m also on the IUP with Apple Care+ so I don’t worry too much about babying my phone, yet my phones are in excellent condition when I return them.

I have AC+
No case for me, phone is heavy enough.
Screen protector, Yes so far. I had bad experiences with my 12Pro and screen scratches. Now even though there’s unlimited claims, I’m going to stick with a screen protector for A few months. Downside is, i change them out often, i have gone thru 7 or so since september.

I use mine with a clear skin on it. Very little drop protection but it does add grip which I like and a nice matte finish.

No case since my first smartphone (HTC Touch Pro) in 2009. iPhone 5, iPhone 6+, iPhone 6s+ and now my 11 Pro Max. None have ever been in a case. All are in good condition, no screen protectors. I don't care about scratches. If someone's looking at my phone close enough to condemn me about scratches then that's a mental issue they have, not me.

I have cracked one screen (6+) and shattered the back/cracked the screen of another (11 Pro Max). Both phones were replaced, the 6+ for the cost of the screen replacement and my 11PM under AC+. In both cases I was ill and not fully paying attention when I dropped them.

That's over the course of 13 years. I'd say that's pretty good.

Not sure tbh, but maybe that diagnostic tool they hook the iPhone up to? Seems to be the "manager" in many situations lol.

I'm really more interested in the physical damage aspect as opposed to the defect aspect.
I'm wondering at what point they will refuse repair or replacement on a damage claim.
Will they replace a screen because of a minor scratch?
Who decides what minor is?
How about a scratch, cosmetic ding or scuff on the frame.
Where do they draw the line................at appearance? functionality?

Yeah, and it could very well be inconsistent. I'm leaning toward believing that in certain situations the manager and the store will differ with some of this based upon experiences shared here and my own.

I'm getting the impression from many of these comments that people think Applecare+ will fix anything, even the minor wear & tear stuff.
Then again, maybe it will.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been turned away.

My experience is that if it’s a functional issue they will replace it. Cosmetic damage like minor cracks that don’t affect usability are not covered.

I don’t use a case on 13 Pro and so fair it looks great still.

Been using my iPhone 13 pro without case with AC+ and not until a few days ago after buying IP14 made two very little scratches. I booked an appointment and after being there I was told the scratches are tagged as 'cosmetic damage' therefore they are not entitled to a change of screen. Annoying because according to them I would have to smash my phone to a wall so they could do it and to be honest I wasn't in the mood of doing that.
