I have applecare plus for my 14 pro but still prefer a case on. Adds a bit of personalisation to my phone and the square sizes are more comfortable. At home I’ll sometimes go caseless as a compromise since a drop would be less damaging on my bed, carpet or sofa than concrete when I’m out the house.

Never go without a screen protector, can’t stand micro scratches and the spiegen screen protector I use is very nice and doesn’t make it obvious I’m using one. Ultimately each to their own and there’s no right or wrong answer.

Why would you intentionally damage or even destroy your own device? If you keep your devices in any sort of decent condition, it's a complete waste of money and resources. You'll still have to pay the deductible and you're effectively creating electronic waste for no good reason.
People like him cause AC+ to become more expensive for everyone else, most notably honest customers.

At least he doesn’t claim to be a good/moral person or anything.

Damaging/destroying perfectly good devices, causing economic and environmental waste, etc… alongside committing fraud.

He will obviously smash his phone, pay a small deductible for a pristine refurb and thereafter sell it on eBay or another marketplace which will cover his overall AC+ expenses.

He’s basically getting free AC+ out of it.

Been using my iPhone 13 pro without case with AC+ and not until a few days ago after buying IP14 made two very little scratches. I booked an appointment and after being there I was told the scratches are tagged as 'cosmetic damage' therefore they are not entitled to a change of screen. Annoying because according to them I would have to smash my phone to a wall so they could do it and to be honest I wasn't in the mood of doing that.
Thanks, this is what I'm looking for.
I wonder if Apple has specific guidelines to determine coverage or not.
Or if it's left up to the "discretion" of an employee.
If THAT'S the case, coverage may vary from store to store, or even from person to person in the same store.

It's taken me a while to build enough confidence but I'm finally contemplating taking the plunge...I'm thinking of going naked with my 14 Pro.

Like many, I love the look of the 14 Pro without a case - the smooth glass back, the polished frame etc. It's just such a shame to cover it up with a case which also adds size and weight (and an additional cost). If you go with a case, you have to go with a screen protector too.

In fact, one of the reasons I've put off upgrading from my 13 mini to a 14 Pro is thinking "what's the point if I'm going to cover it up?".

Now that AppleCare+ includes unlimited damage protection with a minimal excess fee, I feel like it puts consumers in a better place to 'go naked'.

Any advice? Is this a step too far?

For those that already bare all, how does your 13 Pro/14 Pro hold up with day-to-day use?

Especially interested to hear from those long-term exhibitionists, those that have rocked a 12/13 Pro for a year or more - how has your phone held up? Have you made many claims?

Does anyone go semi-naked, i.e. no case but a screen protector?

It would just feel so liberating to not have to care about babying a phone for every second of its life. Even in a case with my 13 mini I'm gently placing it down and a phone shouldn't be like that.

Thanks
I've had several iPhones dating back to the iPhone 5 and never used a case.

I have the iPhone 14 pro - the phone fell in slow motion off my couch and onto the ground (about an 18-inch drop) and cracked the corner of the screen ever so slightly... it almost looks like a scratch more than a crack.

I'm unsure if AppleCare will cover this but I may look into it eventually.. just the risk you take I guess.

Just smash the screen.

Yes it will cover it. It’s an accident!

I was using my 14 Pro Max with a Dbrand real leather back for a while but the leather did not stick well around the camera bump so I took it off.

I’m using a Pitaka Mag Ez case now that I added a Dbrand real leather skin to from my 12 Pro Max. Had to do some trimming around the camera bump as the 14 PM is quite a bit bigger than the 12 PM.

Getting colder here so the extra grip from the leather and case helps.

I may go back to the leather skin in the spring when it warms back up.

FWIW I’ve used my 13 Pro since launch naked. I’ve dropped it a couple of times onto concrete and tarmac, it’s a bit nicked in the steel frame, but no other damages. It’s a sturdy phone for sure. I have AC+, but not used it yet.

Always go caseless and no screen protector with AppleCare+ since 11 Pro.
No regret, it felt great holding just the phone only

I’ve been naked to semi naked on all my phones. Sometimes a dbrand skin and or a screen protector. If I’m traveling I’ll use a pitaka carbon fiber case at most. It’s almost inevitable something will happen no matter how careful you are, but to me it’s worth it. We aren’t alone either. I was just in an airport yesterday and saw a guy rocking a 14pm naked. With Apple care + like you said makes it even easier to consider.

I've gone back and forth between case and no case. I have AppleCare+, but it's still a minor PITA to get the thing fixed/replaced. I've still got some ugly little dings on the side of my 13 Mini from when I dropped it in a parking lot at the beach last summer. I could get it fixed at minimal cost, but there's also a time cost, and I never find myself thinking "hmm, this would be a great time to make a special trip to the Apple Store and either wait around for a fix or have them hand me a new phone which I now have to restore.

I'm unsure about this as well, in terms of what they'll cover under AppleCare +, I've got a 14 Pro that I've had since launch and I dropped it last week on concrete, the sides are pretty dinged up and there's a very very minor dent in the corner where it hit, no damage to the screen or back though. If AppleCare would cover fixing that, I'd get it in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure if they will. I asked the store employees and they had no idea either, only to tell me that it would be up to the discretion of whatever technician looks at my phone. Anyone had experience getting them to fix/replace a phone with damage just on the sides like this?

i just was not sure if it was a large enough crack... not sure who had what experience in the past
If it’s a small scratch I double it will cover it (I think this is really small cosmetic issue that is wear and tear, maybe scratch by a small grain of sand). But a chip on glass or crack it’ll cover it.

In the past my experience has been exactly this: if you pay the $100 (or whatever) for a replacement you will get a replacement. Apple employees don’t care what the damage is as long as you pay the replacement fee.

I used my 13 Pro naked for the last 11 months I had it. All I had on it was a pop socket MagSafe grip. No screen protector, nothing. It had a small screen scratch on the edge that you had to look at from just the right angle to even see, other than that it was fine. Hubby has it now.

Now I’ve got the ink leather case on my purple 14 pro but I’m already itching to go back to the old set up. I’ll likely do it in the spring - in the winter with gloves it’s just easier to keep the case on for extra grip. I have no fear about using it caseless and I’ll be back to it sooner than the spring, I’m sure

I went caseless for two years with my 11 P to Max and two years caseless with my X before that. I’ve been caseless the majority of times with all my phones, even though I was guilty of wasting money on cases anyway knowing I’d end up not using them.

Lucky u guys having Apple Stores in your countries, in Eastern Europe we have this authorised store iStyle, but no such services from them 👎🏼 I’d definitely go caseless and without any screenprotector if I had AC+.
Although I am stressing over getting a pretty noticable scratch on the SS side, while having the leather ink case on the phone 😳 frustrating.

I would stress over it. I have a 13 mini in a case and guess what? Little spec of dirt got in and there’s small aluminum dots. So the same thing can happen. Get the white SS model and you can polish the sides if ever it was a concern. But imho use it how you like it. Get a screen protector if anything. Get a case when needed but naked most of the time

Will get the white version next year for sure, I had a choise between the purple and the white one and no regrets.
There’s the scratch 😒
